To start from the beginning I picked up a bastard 20g, but didn't want to run a j-pipe so I picked up a 7blade billet compressor wheel and a 3" intake downward firing compressor cover. I installed everything, turbo spun freely as expected. There is no shaft play axial or radial.
I primed the turbo by pulling the MPI relay and cranking the car over about 10 times for 10-15 seconds each time. The turbo is being fed from the head with a -4 braided line and a inline filter. The drain is a factory drain.
Finally started the car, everything seemed fine. The turbo didn't make any weird noises, no smoke etc. Went around to the side of the car to bleed the cooling system. Brought the idle up to around 1500 rpm's, thats when I noticed the turbo wasn't constantly spinning (the intake isn't on yet-running SD so no maf). It would stop then start then stop. Not aggressively, but none the less come to a stop.
This is where I am now. I shut the car off immediately. Total run time is about 1 minutes. The turbo is a used turbo but in good shape from a reliable source. Internally gated 34mm flapper that is not leaking. Any idea what is going on? What should I be looking for? Any help is appreciated!
I decided to go out and give it a go again with a little more time than I had last night. So I started the car and it seemed all fine and dandy at first then the wheel stopped again. This time I made sure to get video. After it stopped the wheel is firm to spin, spins smooth and does not bind. If you spin it for a few seconds it will come back to normal. Almost like it has high pressure in the chra or something?
