I wouldn't advise this. Different engine induction design (more boost = more detonation = better diesel engine). they also use much larger turbine sides compared to us, and spool time vs airflow wouldn't be a very good ratio.
 
I would not say that no truck turbos would work but the turbine sides are too big. Look at John Deere Tractors they use borg warner and garret turbos.
 
Correct. I seriously doubt anyone would even try to run the original hotside of a turbo coming straight off any engine, albeit an insta-spool diesel, with over 6 liters of displacement.

Luckily for us Bullseye makes a bolt on turbine housing for the HX-35 and HX-40.
 
TimG, a moderator, uses an hx35 with the stock housing. He has hks 272s which slow spool and he sees FULL boost by 4K. As good as any 50/60-trim. The hx35 flowes 52 lb/min based on the compressor map. With a bolton housing (the small bulleseye performance turbine housing) it has put out 500whp and it spools to 30psi by 3500rpms with 272 style cams. . . An evo3 16g has a hard time spooling that fast with 272s!!!! The stock housing accepts a t3 flange. Flow of a 50-trim and spool of a 16g. I hav e logs where my h1c (similar to the hx35) puts out more airflow with less boost at only 5200rpms vs. my small 16g in it's sweet spot. My h1c in the bolton housing spools about as fast as my small 16g.

The hx40 accepts a t4 flange. It has been able to put down 650whp, and shows spool at about the same time as a gt3076r, with an earlier peak power in fact. So it flows like a gt35R but spools like a gt30R. This is all in the bolton housing. I don't know any DSMs using the stock turbine housing with the hx40 YET. But there is one now running a .82 a/r garrett undivided t3 housing. And his spool is slightly later than the LARGE bullseye performance housing.

The gt40r is a diesel turbo. It gets rave reviews from the "garrett nazis" LOL . The turbine housings of diesel turbos are not large. They have a higher a/r number becasue 99% of them are divided scroll housings. They need to spool to 30+ psi by 1300rpms for "pulling torque". This means that a 5.9 cummins pickup (where the hx35 comes from, guys upgrade to the hx40 all the time) will be displacing 3800litres. Any 4-stroke 2.0L displaces 3800litres at 3800rpms. Also diesel exhaust gases are slow and cold. Both VERY VERY bad for spool up. A journal bearing Holset spools faster than its Garrett GT ballbearing counterpart. Holsets have superback technology that gives them mega durability when overrevved. They have VERY durable bearings.

We also now have confirmed the proper compressor maps for the hx30w, hx35, 8-blade hx40, 8-blade h1e, hx40 pro, hx super40, Hx50-55. . . Which have been so hard to get from holset. A quick search would have given you one of the best libraries of diesel turbos on 4-cylinders on the web: Holset Turbos part 1-4.

Borg-Warner turbos are awesome, reliable, rebuildable turbos that also spool faster than their un-rebuildable garrett BB counterpart.
