First off I hope this is the right forum area to post this theard.

Ok I am 20 years old in college and am looking at turbos. I'm not sure what turbo would be best. I was hoping to reach mid 12s to high 11s. Money is kinda tight, and I am rebuilding my motor (staying at 2.0) and tranny. I have 680cc injectors a aeromotive fpr, and a punishment racing short route fmic.

I'm looking to spend anywhere from $600-$1,200. I have an S-afc blue face. I'm not looking to buy DSMlink, and am ify on buying a wideband (if i had to it'd be a cheap one)

Thanks :talon:

1. An AFC won't be much good for tuning those 680's. Either get a chip burned for them, get Link or another EMS, or live with a lack of tuneability with the AFC.

2. To really "tune" anything you'll need a wideband O2. This isn't negotiable. You CANNOT tune on a narrowband O2.

3. Take a look at the 1/4 mile timeslip list on this site and see what turbos others are using for your goals. Then look up their other mod lists and see what else you'll need to get there.

ok thanks, I was thinking of taking it to philly dyno works to get it tuned so i dont have to get Link but, i will get a wideband. any idea where i can still get an Eprom chip? dsmchips' site has been down for months now, and I'm not looking to spend 3k on a chip

Keydivers site has been down for awhile. I was trying to look at the chips but it came up under construction

RT AWD, not to get off the topic, but how do you like that punishment racing FMIC? I'm really interested in their short route kit and have been trying to find out what people who have them think of it.

its good.... but you need custom piping if you have ABS plan on either A) throwing out your a/c and p/s coolant line or B) keeping the a/c and cutting the hell out of your bumper and crash bumper. you lose your fog lights obviously aswell. So basically it is horrible fitment and unless your realllly good at fabing piping cutting etc. I'd take it to a shop.

P.s. the core is BIG. I'd say capable of supporting 500+ hp for half the price of other kits horrible fitment though. and throttle response is very nice :sneaky:

Try Keydiver. A lot of DSM'ers have had good luck with them.

thats the site i ment its been down for a long time

The only reason I was looking at the keydiver/logger/safc combo is because money. I know in the long run link would be cheaper and better but I dont have the money to drop on link all at once. I like the idea that I can buy the logger and safc for now and then when I want to go bigger just get the chip (or if he's still offering the eprom/chip combo) for whatever changes I want. I'm only looking to run the 14b on my auto since my gf will be dd most of the time. I dont think I need link for just a 14b and 650's.

what is the difference between the STAGE 3 chip WITH the EPROM and the STAGE 3 WITHOUT the EPROM? I'm thinking I'm just going to go with a ported EVO III a FP 18g, or a hybrid turbo again i have 680s and an s-afc

With an eprom means he includes an eprom and without is without one. Not sure if he also sockets them.

What exactly are you referring too? On his website it shows the Stage 3 chip by itself for $140, or you can buy a whole EPROM ECU with his stage 3 chip already installed for $375. You can't have a stage 3 ecu without an eprom, there would be no way to tune it.

If you already have an EPROM ECU, all you need is to get your ECU socketed and you can install the chip. If not, you'll need to buy an EPROM ECU, and you should consider buying one from Keydiver. $375 seems like a lot, but thats a good price considering you get a chip and a known working ECU. I paid $150 for an EPROM ECU once, and ended up having to pay another $150 to get it fixed so the car would even run. Not a good way to go.

S-AFC Neo: $359
Keydiver stage 3: $140
Pocket Logger: $99
Total: $598

DSM Link is like $545 with a dealer. I'd highly suggest Link right off the bat. Spend an extra paycheck saving up for it -- it'll be worth it.

I'd probably just pick up a used safc2. I'm not too worried about tuning it much on the 14b and 560's and 2g maf. Plus the car is going to be the girls daily driver... DSMLink is going in the race car:thumb:. I don't doubt link at all its just in the car I have now I'm not driving and I figure I can get away with the s-afc for now. Then eventually get the chip once she shells out the $$.

Well my S-AFC was free (came with car) i have a laptop for logging, and from what i understand i need to get the eprom chip combo and that cheaper than link.

I currently have a 14b and 450's, with Link. :) That might change soon, but I understood that things were going to change years ago when I bought Link.

Do you really think you're going to stay with the same turbo/fuel setup forever?

Well it's tough to say since I'm only 20 and anything is possible right now. I don't know anyone with DSM link I've heard its good but i can tell you guys now that after the engine rebuild/break-in tranny rebuild new turbo and tuning; i don't think ill have the $580 maybe in the future though.

For now i'll just let phillydyno tune my car.

Age has nothing to do with it, hell, I'm only 22. With a little effort, you could sell your SAFC and skip the dyno day (that's what? $3-400 anyways?) and chalk up close the amount that you'd need for dsmlink. Throw in another week's paycheck and you're there.

:thumb: Im 20..
age has nothing to do with it. You just need to put enough effort like the other guys:talon:
look up fftec they are having a sale on dsmlink's. I just bought mine off them!

I'm only 21 and my car is built pretty good so far. I have done all the work which saves a good amount of money. So you being 20 has nothing to do with it.

FFtec charges extra for anything different than 550 injectors when you buy dsmlink? I just looked at their website its:
+$54 for 580's,680's,780's, or 880'2
+$95 for 1000's
+$141 for 1600's

Why would they charge extra when all you have to do is put the settings in yourself and when ecmtuning doesn't charge extra?

The turbo I would get for your goals and have a little more room to grow is a 50 trim. The SBR g50(which I have) is a good price. And you said you were looking to spend up to $1200 so with the money you save on the turbo and sell your safc you will have more than enough money to buy dsmlink. If you don't have the injectors already I would buy bigger ones if you get dsmlink so you have room to grow. Or sell them and buy bigger ones. You should have enough money to buy both bigger injectors and dsmlink if you sell the safc and your current injectors and add the money you saved from buying the turbo. Now you have no logical excuse to not buy dsmlink.

I guess but i have the injectors already and I guess age doesnt have anything to do with it. I'm keeping the S-AFC and getting a 50-trim. the 680s will be at approx. 80-85% duty cycle giving me a little growing room. I'll be able to tune the car good by also adding in an Innovative wideband i know a guy with that set up and he's running high 11's which is where i'd like to be at this stage.
