My new evo III 16g has less than 3000 miles on it and a couple days ago the pitch of the spool changed to a more high pitch sound. So this got me worried and i pulled the intake and it used to spin just beautifully it still spins the same except in one spot it has some drag when i spin the shaft with my fingers, the turbo still has no shaft play however and i have only been running it at 10psi. Cause for alarm? Or does anyone know what the problem is or how i could find out Thanks for your time.

Have you looked at the compressor blades? One day my t-25 starting being really loud and when I pulled off the intake I noticed one compressor blade was chipped/bent. I think that's why it's loud.

BS. A MHI turbo is designed to be fed from cylinder head oil pressure. Anyone who has given one much more oil pressure has suffered from oil blowing past the seals... I've run three MHI turbos w/ head supplied oil.

Not true. Me and many other people are running 16gs off of the filter housing, where the pressure is a considerable amount more than the head. No smoke, no blown seals.

Same happened to me. It started sounding really high pitched and it screamed like a airplane engine.

mine is feed from the filter housing and i have no chipping or bend blades on the comp. wheel

I just hooked mine up to where the 14b was hooked up to and i have put 35,000 miles on it and it has been fine.

but the stock one was pretty good too all but the hot wheel was all burnt up after 175,000 miles.

I sold that turbo someone else put a new wheel on it and is still using it. so i think the head works fine for oil.

Come on guys. Can't start screaming IT"S BAD w/ only 3k miles.

I've had close to 10k miles on my evo3 and it spins the same it did from day one. Feed from the head from day one w/ a stock oil feed line. I think if Mitsubishi designed it originally to feed from the head it isn't debatable. Standard thrust bearings are less susceptible to oil starvation. It takes alot to ruin thrust bearings.

Just sounds like either a boost leak or an exhaust leak. Check the jpipe gasket and do a boost leak test.
