OK so i have finally decided to step up into the big leagues with a bigger turbo and an external waste gate. the guy i was looking at buying this from said it dumps to the atmosphere is this bad ? or good? any info on this and on external waste gates, why there good? what exactly they do? anything . would be great thanks guys.:thumb:

I like dumping external wastegates to the atmosphere. First off you dont have to worry about when to bring the vented gasses back into the exahust gas "stream" if you will. If you do this incorrectly you could cause turbulence in the exhuast system and this would hinder the exhaust gas from getting away from the turbine as fast a possible. A downside is that you need a place to vent it, such as out your fender or something like that. And also as a side note it sounds cool as hell, but thats my own 2 cents. An internal wastegate is a part of the turbocharge, built in so to speak. An external wastegate is a seperate component that is mounted to the exhaust manifold in most cases (the exhuast runner collecter being my favorite). They both due the same thing, but the external setup has been found to regulate boost levels more precisly.

No its not bad and if you dont like it you can always reroute it back into your exhaust. I have mine dumping to the atmosphere( routed it through the side of my bumper!) Just remember to keep it away from wires etc. bc it would melt them and sometimes blacken some parts. It's alot louder, but I love the sound. And its only open (Loud) when your in full boost otherwise you will not hear it. The benefits you will have to look up for more detail but it has to do with boostcreep mostly.

Whats even more fantastic besides the fact that it regulates boost 1000 times better than an actuated turbo is that when you run rich and hit revlimit, it'll throw a nice huge fireball out the side/under your car (depending on how you route it LOL

the way he said it is set up is it dumps out the bottom of the car is this ok? or would you recommend re routing it some where else? how do you re route it?

Alot of people just dump it in there engine bay like I said just make sure its away from anything that can melt. I used some exhaust flex I think it's called for the rerouting.

when people say that they re route it out the fender what do they mean? and if its that hot would you really want that on your tires? i was thinking of using like some stainless line to re route it, dont know if that would be good or not? what is exhaust flex? and will it harm any thing else or just the wires? what else should i look for?

Dumping it under the hood would be fine as long as nothing around it will melt, but I always like thought the fender better. By through the fender I meant that you just route the wastegate vent pipe out through either one of the fender in front of the tire, which ever is easier. The tires should be fine, you should probably be more worried about your bumper though. You could cut the whole in the bumper a little bit bigger then the pipe or make up a heat shielf out of sheet metal or something of that nature. If you searched in the gallery you could probably find really useful pictures.

With mine i made a small plate prob. 5"x5" and welded a 1" pipe at an angle. Tried to draw it for you in paint. As you can see im no artist!

thanks ajax for the diagram. i think i might either re route out the fender or maybe for now just custom fab some metal and weld it together to make a heat sheild. and then later re route it thanks for all your help. i know alot but i guess you could say im waste gate / partialy turbo stupid. mostly due to this is my first turbo swap, so i want to do it right. thanks for your help guys.
