I installed my big 16g yesterday, the I can spin the compressor wheel freely, a tad stuff. It's nothing insane stuff, although it spins. When I get on the gas, the stock 2g boost gauge goes to the line right around 1/2 and says there. The car will not pick up RPM or anything. I ran through and checked for wires off, etc etc. I then pulled CEL's from the datalogger, nothing besides the EGR. I checked the SAFC and the higest values were 2900rpm and 231 karmen. It alos has a tubular manifold that I installed all at the same time. This manifold turned red hot after about 30 seconds. The entire thing was glowing but I was told that was normal. When I put the car in nutral I can rev it up but there's no BOV or boost even at the studderbox.

Tommorow im gunna check the waste gate and flapper. But even if it was stuck open, would it cause all of this? I would think the engine would overcome that and still rev. Anyway just hopeing someone's got something that I can check when I go back out there.

no offense but half that doesnt make sense

you dont have an aftermarket boost gauge???

i'm not sure bout the tubular mani but i dont think it should get that hot that fast (i could be wrong, no experience with them)

you check for leaks and such yet?


So basically you installed a tubular exhaust mani and a B16g now you cant build boost? It will go to a certian RPM and just stop? Did you buy thise B16g used/new? did you replace your exhaust mani gasket when putting the new mani on? Do you have the stock IC pipes and IC?

go through that and ppl should be able to help you more
 
This car hasnt been running long enough for me to get around to putting on the boost gauge. I have stock IC pipes, stock everything else. I got this turbo as a trade for a head, so it was used. Havent had much time to mess with the car, you're close so you probibly know how the weather's been doin lately.

Sorry if half of that didnt make sense, I was writeing it late last night after a very long day.

I'm going to check the waste gate flapper in about 5min, I hope it's that.
 
Try turning down the boost, it sound like maybe when you hit boost your car seems to stop? Can you drive around as long as you stay under 3k rpms?
 
Maybe your clutch is shot and its slipping. Thats what happened when mine started to go, it would get to a certain rpm, then stop.
 
It's nothing like that. I pulled the o2 off, waste gate flapper is intact. I swapped the waste gates with a known working one, didnt help. I started it the turbo spins no problem. I just took it for another ride it has no boost and wont accellerate, the rpms barley climb. Im now wondering if my MAFS is broke, although it's not throwing a CEL. The most karmen I can pull (according to SAFC) is about 218.

if maf was bad it would throw a CEL. do you have a logger to monitor your shit?
 
Did you tighten all the ic piping back up after you installed the turbo? It sounds like you have a major boost leak. I suggest trying a boost leak test and see what the outcome is. http://www.vfaq.com/mods/ICtester.html Just by chance, can you hear the turbo spool at all? If it was tight to spin, it might have coked the oil from not cooling down. If so, its time for a rebuild.

And while it is sitting, install a boost gauge.
 
I'd give about 90% chance that your IC pipe blew off somewhere or clamp is not on, and about 10% you dropped something down the exhaust, it crushed first honeycomb in the you cat, which in turn clogged up the second honeycomb (in other words, your exhaust is plugged up.)

I assume you wouln't have a problem finding blown-off or loose IC pipe.
As for exhaust, see if there are abnormally big exhaust leaks from DP, O2 housing or turbo inlet gaskets. If your exahust really is restricted, car would idle good, as well as rev under no load, but giving any load will make exhaust sound thumpy, muffled at certain rpm.

As I said, i still incline towards unclamped IC pipe, since you seem to get fine up to boost level (around 3k rpm), after which, it seem pressure is simply sipping past the unclamped joint.
 
If you had a bad wastegate actuator, it could start to build enough boost to leave the vacuum, but before it can gather positive non-vacuum boost, the wastegate is held open. Try the actuator arm or maybe the diaphragm. But do a boost-leak test first.
