Ok well some of you may have seen the recent problems i had with my stock t25 taking a dump on me. Well i just got my car back out of the shop with a B16G, and everything that needed to be replaced on the motor was replaced, water pump, oil pump, timing belt, seals, i had the head rebuilt, etc.
Well when I got it back they told me it might smoke for a couple weeks till the rest of the oil in the intercooler and exhaust burns off. Well i was driving tonight down this strip we use for racing (not on a public road, closed road) and I take a couple little runs down it, revving to about 4500-5k before i would shift, just something to get a bit of a feel for the boost. Then i took a pretty hard run down it shifting just before 6k and when i get to the end and power down i see all this smoke coming from my exhaust......oh not not again . It was a very considerable amount and it continued to pour out for a couple minutes and it smells like burning oil again. Im running 10lbs of boost right now. When i drove it home it smoked a small amount for like 5-6 minutes then stopped a few minutes before i got home. What are the chances that its just the oil burning off from the intercooler and exhaust? I really hope it didnt die on me again, its all brand new stuff.

Did they rebuild the bottom end?

Does it smoke constantly? only while boosting? only on decel and idle?

Any water/oil mixing?


No, there's not enough oil in or on the exhaust and IC to burn for that long. It might smoke a little on the first start up if that were the case but not for long.

No, they did not rebuild the bottom end, i was getting 170psi across the board on compression tests and they checked out the bottom end and said it was beautiful. I better not have blown a headgasket, i just got a new metal mitsu HG with ARP headstuds. It was a consistant smoke, smelled like oil, but was gone in a few minutes and hasnt been back since, i even drove it a couple more times since then and boosted it a little bit and still no smoke. WTF

Strange, maybe there really was an ass load of oil inside the exhaust, turbo, or IC. Ah well, report back if it starts up again I guess.

I had the same happen to me with my exhaust. If they made it a point to tell you about the smoke, then they probably got a little oil in the exhaust by accident or some dumb sh*t. Too burn off oil after it has been heated up in the exhaust, you must make some REAL heat by gettin that turbo spooled and boosting for a little while so the EGT's come up to around 1200 or so. Then the smoke will roll. I had a ton of oil in my downpipe, and you would not believe how long it took me to burn it all out.

I'd try pulling your ic off and pouring some gas into it. Let it wash through and back(yes it gets all over your hands) That will clean all the oil out of it. The piping you can clean out with brake cleaner. When turbo's blow they tend to dump a ton of oil into your exhaust which can take a while to clean out. Try the highway for a little while to get things hot and burn old stuff out.

That's a good idea. If it is the intercooler, even if the oil burns off it will leave a lot of build up in there that does nothing for efficiency.
