alright so i bought this 14b bout a month , got the turbo and saw it had a good amount of shaft play but i wasn't sure so i had few dif people look at it and they said it was pretty bad but i would have to put it in to really see how it is
SO tonight i finnaly got it in and i went to drive it for about 3-4 minutes it seemd fine i didn't really get on it hard i did boost it to about 10psi and it stuck there good
thennnn it completly stoped boosting feels like a none turbo elcipse it drives fine and everything just REALLLY slow now i can get maybe 4 to 5 psi at about 7200 Rpms right before i shift
so is the turbo dead? how can i tell for sure
I think it is, any help it be awesome!

if it makes weird noises its blown, having shaft play means its gone anyway

Thats a big one right there and it could be blown seals if its blowing black smoke through out accell

That would be blue/white smoke. ;)

yeah, well it is not blowing any smoke at all
runs clean just wont boost,

i just went and check the shaft play in it again since it has oil threw it and there is no shaft play now. i can still spin it why would the shaft play be gone??
what else could be making it not boost other then it being blown????

It is perfectly normal to have some side to side shaft play without oil pressure. Let's go back to the basics.

1. Check and make sure a huge exhaust leak before o2 housing didn't develop during the initial testing.

2. Make sure the actuator arm is still attached to the wastegate lever. If so, make sure the flapper is fully closed with the arm attached.

3. A complete boost leak test, something could have popped off during the test run.

4. After 1-3 checks out (this is important), perform an all out boost test run by leaving the actuator nipple open, make sure to feather the throttle as we are looking for all out boost. If problem persists after all this, it would be pretty clear that the turbo is the problem.

Good luck.

wowah!!! man i am the type of person that never checks the easyest thing first i just think the worst,
after reading the previos post i went and check my was gate arm and YUP it came off
it is runnin good now!
thanks yall

check and make sure all intercooler hoses are completely on. this could cause a slight vaccum leak and allow it to not boost.

How do you leave the actuator nipple open?

Couldn't you just remove the intake pipe that runs from the turbo to the stock intercooler and see if the turbo boosts that way? The J-Pipe I believe. Would this be dangerous?

this happened to me about a month after i got my dsm. i went through first and hit 2nd pretty hard and... NOTHING. it scared the crap outta me. and it was the actuator arm had fallen off. my 14b blew last november and now i have a evo3.
