I have a 420a and i am looking to turbo it I only plan on running 7 pounds for now but i have been told wiht under 10 psi i dont need an intercooler... It would just be until i had enough money to get a front mount. And i was also wondering if i would need to get a fuel pump... Also since im already asking questions What kind of management do i need? Someone told be a Super chip is all that i would need.... Can any one help :dsm:

Technically, you can run without an intercooler. It's just a bad idea, as the charge will be hotter than ambient (read: not as much oxygen in the same volume), and that same 7psi will not net you the same 'kick'.

And besides... after laying down all the cash and time to turbo a 420A, you don't have enough scratch to pick up a stocker SMIC from the Classifieds and wedge it in somewhere handy as a temporary holdover?

P.S.... I hope you've swapped to low-compression pistons? Otherwise, you might think about only running 3psi for now (and until you research a bit more). Enough to eliminate the vac, and give a little bit of boost, but with slightly reduced risk of detonating your engine with the stock high-compression ones, which don't expect a turbo, and aren't meant to compensate for one.

If you are going to run without an intercooler then consider going water/alcohol injection. This will lower your intake temps, and increase your octane alittle bit to keep you from knocking on the engine. Alot of ppl have done the stage one kits w/o an intercooler just get a logger and check for timing pull. I would get a SAFC to use for fuel management it is one of the easiest to use for the beginning tuner.

Im getting the general concencous that i need to get a 4g63 and do a swap but ive heard that these engines are decent when turbo then im hearing that they wont hold up... You 2 have given me the best info with out jumping down my throat. My only problem is that everyone has a 4g63 and i want to be different but different tends to be expensive.... and expenses i dont have... so do you agree with the 4g63??? :dsm:

I don't really know what you're asking because you went from the fuel pump/intercooler part, To a full blown 4g63 swap into a n/t 2g.

Is your car turbo'd already? I would definatly get both a fuel pump and an intercooler, Even if it is the stock sidemount for now, You won't be running high boost levels with a stock motor anyways.

If you said you don't have money for those two items above, Then you definatly do not have money to swap a 4g63 into your 2g n/t.
