ok i got my new pistons,i got the 2gen pistons to put in my 1st gen turbo.i compared them to my stock turbo pistons and there no different,other then rod is smaller and there is more of a flat top piston then a dome piston,arent they suppose to be different?just making sure before i put them in my engine.

They sound right to me. They are not as "dished" because they are higher compression (8.5:1). How much different are they supposed to look?

You can look at the ringlands on each, and see the 2g piston ringlands are spread out farther apart.

what pistons did you buy? if topline then they will be no different because topline 1g and 2g pistons are the same except for the pin size 1g 21mm 2g 22mm? but oem 1g and 2g are very different the ringlands are ideed different you can tell just looking at them!

^ that is incorrect because I used to work for an engine remanufacturing company that used topline products, and the 1G pistons are different from the 2G like they should be. They are also dished differently for the different compression numbers. I have topline 2G pistons in mine and there was a visible difference from the 1G's that came out.

There is a noticable difference between the 2g and 1g. If you think that you got 1g pistons instead of 2g pistons you probably did.

you sold them, I built engines with them (including the one in my car). They are different.

i was reading in scc some of the 1gens use a 7.7 ratio while the 2nd use either a 8.5 or a 8.8 have to look at the article its been a month or so but im 99% sure on the 1gen

the first gens run a compression ratio of 7.8. the 2gen use a 8.5

They aren't a drastic difference. But the 2G's have a taller hat on the piston. No as deep a dish. They appear stouter than the 1G's. Everyone is correct on the ring lands.

1G- 7.8:1
2G- 8.5:1
Evo1-3- 8.8:1
