Car boosts fine and runs great but when I start it in the morning with the hood open, I can see some very slight smoke coming out of the crack. Once the car runs for like 10 mins it goes away. How can I fix this?

A crack would be tough to fix. I'm venturing to bet its not really repareable. The picture is hard to see but the only thing I can think of that would even possibly repair a crackwould be replacment of the cracked part or a really good TIG weld. Thats if there isn't any internal damage along with it. Still reparing it seems on the iffy side.

Turbo goes through crazy hot/cold cycles wich is why getting a repair job to stick and not make things worse could be difficult.

so i guess JB weld is out of the question? Lol

Is there anyway to just replace that section? Like some sort of housing or is it one piece?

From experience... JB weld doesn't stick to parts that see 1400*F+ temps. It falls off and looks as if it was never their. I used some on my buddies RX-7 when we went non-sequential cause my welder wasn't working at the time. Was a temp fix that lasted about 10 minutes. Hell could be been 15 but I wasn't counting.

For around $35, Pyro-Putty 2400 is worth a shot. I've used it on cracked headers but unfortunately it's not strong enough to replace welds on totally separated parts but for cracks it should be fine. The stuff is pretty amazing.

The company site is www.aremco.com but you also get it at www.mcmaster.com (p/n 7356A33).

Unfortunately it only has a 6 month shelf life so don't buy more than you plan on using.

You could get it welded BUT to do it right they would have to weld while the turbo is hot, Then you would need to get it checked at your local NDT company for undercut/slag/perosity or internal cracks.

Best but would be to replace the cracked part....

<----works at NDT company :)

being a former welder ive welded lots of cast iron parts... my best advice would be to take the part off, bead blast the area that needs to be welded and take it to a welder that can weld using a stick welder... just make sure he studs it, and preheats the part beforehand...

for example here is the crack

----__----__---

when you stud it you want to bascially prep it... if you do this yourself its gonna cost alot less... grab a die grinder and prep the weld after cleaning so its a straight line.. then take a drill and drill holes at the end of the cracks... then bring the holes into the crack.. then youll want to "V" the whole thing so the electrode can place material into it...dont go too deep though!! just a small v so it looks clean..

make it look like this...

|-----------|

if you want to save even more money and make sure its done right go by the electrodes for him at a welding shop... you want to us 55Ni 1/8in
