I've just begun to mess with my new s-afcII. I remember reading that one of the things to try to achieve when tuning is a stable timing curve. I've always heard that timing should start low in the run and get higher as it ends topping out around 15-20". Is this correct or, with an afc, do you try and tune so your timing is always in the 15-20 degree range and stays at a flat rate instead of climbing?

Timing is relative to what fuel MAP your on ( I think) which will change depending on engine condtions. AIM for 19-21 psi up top, you will get some pull @ around 4000 RPM but it should advance from that point forward. REtIf you get know it will pull it back.. (adjust fuel) If your coolant temps are over 209? its gets pulled.. LOTS of things effect timing.. You just gotta log alot of runs and interpolate what your logs tell you. You can't adjust timing with and AFC but you can adjust your fuel/air delivery to prevent knock and get you the best timing.

Correction "AIM for 19-21 psi up top,"

should read AIM for 19-21 Deg timing up top

That means you were knocking, which just means that you were not tuning it properly, or something else was wrong.
