Building a daily driver with a 16g, turbo xs DMBC, and stock fuel system other than a 190 pump. I am installing a boost gauge, EGT gauge, and still have a third slot on my gauge pillar. So here states the question....Whats the next best gauge to install? I'm thinking fuel pressure. Any opinions on what would be the mest for monitoring/tuning the car?

fuel pressure isn't a bad idea. i was thinking maybe oil pressure? or maybe coolant temp? it depends what else you want to know is going on with your engine. personally i would do either oil pressure, coolant temp, or intake air temp. hope this helps.

I say toss the EGT, and get fuel and oil pressure gauges. Or, one of the two and a coolant temperature gauge.

Or, get less gauges and get a logger.

Why are you getting a 16g for a car with a stock fuel system?

what your shiting me.. EGT is pretty important.. moreso than oil and water temps and pressures as you already have thoughs guages stock. Just becouse the stock boost guage is shit dont mean the rest are...

i would say get air temp/ Fuel pressure or a GOOD not some cheap useless air/fuel ratio guage...

I'm sure you know this but you can run any turbo on a stock fuel system, you just cant turn up the boost. Anyways in answer to your question i got the turbo from machv motorsports and i will be able to run at least 16lbs with an upgraded fuel pump and 93 octane. I got the turbo though because it is a project car and if i ever want to go to injectors and a AFC i can. Also i know for a fact EGT gauges are one of the better tuning tools so i am definately getting one. Thinking fuel pressure will be the third gauge.

wow, listen to none of this. a turbo is a good base for upgrades. i'm pretty sure he'll do the fuel upgrades as his pocket book allows him. this guy doesnt seem to know his butt from a hole in the wall!
on a 16g setup, or basically any DSM setup, a FP Gauge is only needed under the hood.

Actually, Kyle wrote a nice tuning guide for the SAFC, however I disagree with ditching the EGT. Just a personal preference. As for a turbo being an upgrade base....ummmm, no. Supporting mods first.

i am doing a 93 turbo motor into a 90 n/a swap and i am doing everything all at once, but i am leaving options open so that if i ever want to move up to injectors and an afc i can.

I do not know my butt from a hole in the wall? HAHAHAHA! If you would like to continue this debate, feel free to PM or e-mail me.

Want to do some research about EGT gauges? Read this, and pay specific sttention to what is ssaid by 95GSXracer:

Just because the car is already equipped with a water temperature gauge, is no reason not to buy a good aftermarket one. The OE water temp gauges are specificially designed so that an entire range of temperatures, as broad as 30-40 degrees, will result in the needle pointing straight up. This is because the general public would otherwise be in at the dealer every other day complaining about how their temperature gauge is at a different place then their friend's brother's girlfriend's. However, when you are racing, knowing the exact temperature can be very important.

The factory oil pressure gauge is similar, but not quite as bad.

Would you like to explain to me what a "good, not useless" A/F ratio gauge is? Every single A/F gauge on the market simply reads the voltage coming from the O2 sensor, meaning that every single one is useless for tuning, and really only good for telling you that your O2 sensor is dead. Not a good use of $50-$150, if you ask me.

I was not saying that you "can't" use a 16g on a stock fuel system. I was simply wondering why you would spend 500 dollars on a turbo that is not going to give you any gains at all over a 14b at the boost levels you are running.

Also, I would suggest that you do some logging before you just assume that you can run 16 psi of boost on pump gas.

Anything else?

I knew you'd get here sooner or later :)

First off i'm not here to argue, just to gain information. I cant stand the petty dick measuring contests over who knows what their talking about or not. I have been sending PM's back and forth with 95GSXracer discussing my best plan of attack when it comes to building this car. You must keep in mind i have no prior knowledge of these cars and the only information i have accumulated to my knowledge is mainly from this site, road race engineering's site, and a little from mach v motorsports. I've never even driven a turbo car before but yet i am taking on this project of the swap and upgrades so ya kinda gotta bear with me here. I may have jumped into the new turbo a little premature but the thing is i am keeping options open. Yes i know there are thousands of dollars you can spend on other mods but the turbo is the single highest hp increase (if tuned properly), so i got one. 95GSXracer has told me about how indespensible pockteloggers are and i will probably get one but, what all do the log? And Kyle once again i'm not here to argue but i know i can run 16lbs on 93 octane. Much higher has been done. So.......in conclusion, whos got some truely helpful tips for me?

I did not start that stupid arguement, and I purposely asked that if he cared to take it further, that he do so off the board.

It is good that you have been talking to Kevin, at least you are getting your information from a reliable source.

As to running 16 psi..... people have done it, yes. I personally have also seen knock at that boost level, on a 14b, on 94 octane, and I know other who have seen knock at 16 psi with 16g's. All I am saying is that every car is different, and you cannot assume that you will be able to do something simply because someone else pulled it off.

Loggers rule, get one of those before anything else.

Understood, no harm no foul. Do you happen to have alost of everything a pocketlogger can log? I went to the site and read around but couldnt seem to come up with much. Any information on them would be appreciated.
Thanks
