OK, I installed my S-AFC today and hooked it up the way the directions for the 4G63 engine ECU stated.

Now when I turned on the car, my digital AF gauge was only reading .96, my stock boost gauge was not working(its used to), my turbo starts spooling a like 2k, and it almost dies when i turn it on.

Heres a pic on how I hooked it up. For the air flow sensor from: ecu>white wire> into afc> out yellow> into ecu. Also, the only wires I used were the red, brown, black, green, grey, yellow and white. And I did not touch any of the settings when I installed it yet.

yellow and white are wrong, you needed to use orange and pink. Look in the other english manual that comes with the safc at the back of the manual there is a diagram that shows how the karman sensors need to be hooked up. Good luck!

*edit*
I just looked in the manual.
change yellow to pink
and white to orange

so I have to be looking at the hook up for the karmen? Is that how its suppose to go: ecu wire> orange > afc> pink> wire into ecu?

ok, I switched the wires and I am not getting a check engine light anymore, but it still feels real choppy and my digital AF gauge was going up to about 1.00. And the stock boost gauge doesnt work still. Still havent touched the safc yet.

This is from page 44 of the SAFC instruction manual:

Red wire - power
green wire - rpm
gray wire - throttle
brown wire - ground
black wire - ground
pink wire - air flow signal out
orange wire - air flow signal in

***be sure to connect the brown wire CLOSER to the ECU than the black wire, Failure to do so MAY HIGHLY result in improper product operation and engine damage***

With this info look at pg. 21 of the Vehicle specific wiring diagram manual, diagram M3-a.

Make sure you are tapping the correct wires!

If you followed the installation instructions and tapped the correct wires with the correct safc wires than you need to setup the safc to the correct settings for your vehicle.

Go to RRE AFC settings page and set your AFC exactly like they tell you to. I'd recommend setting up the safc with the car off.

After you have correctly setup the safc, your car should be running fine. If not then you have a problem I don't think I can help you with. For instance your stock boost gauge not working and your O2 gauge giving weird readings sounds like you have not correctly tapped the required wires. I'd even recommend soldering every single connection you make. It's better to have a clean connection to the ECU wires than a fast and easy connection.

And once again good luck with your car! Hopefully I have given you some info that will help you get your car working properly again...

Thanks for all the info guys. I had all the wiring correct (except for the orange and pink). I called up AutoMotoSports (dsm shop) and he walked me through it. I didnt hane the S-AFC in the Karmen mode. After I changed that, it ran just like before. Now, I have to study the manual to see how to adjust it, ill get there. Thanks.

Take baby steps when tuning. It's also nice to have an EGT gauge and some sort of datalogger. Good luck and it's good to hear that your problem was just the sensor type. You did remember to set the s-afc to 4 cycl. and the throttle arrow pointing up right? just making sure, hehe.

Yeah i made sure. That was the first thing that I did. I do have an EGT, but my loggers not up and running yet. I think that its a good idea to take small steps at a time. I tried to adjust the lower rpms a little but it seemed like it didnt do anything (about to -3). I have an AIM accout, my screen name nis mitsugsx7 if anyone can help me out with newbie tuning.

mitsugsx95 - If I were you just leave the safc correction values at "0" for both the high and low tables with the stock injectors. You really can't tune much with the stock injectors. Get your logger, figure out how to log and get some base line logs to use in the future. Then save up for some new injectors, put them in, and tune via the logger. Then you can reference the old logs when the stock ecu was in charge of the fuel; they will probably help. PM me if you have any other tuning questions.
