I just bought a 97 eclipse with s-afc, with exhaust test pipe, has blow off valve and turbo timer, but when i bought it it didn't have anything loaded on the s-afc. the guy said i needed a dyno for it, but was wondering what are some of the # i can use to mess around with it without screwing up my engine. I was also wondering if my check engine light is on b/c i don't have any cats, and if anyone knows of a check engine light fix....

Any help is appreciated...

Freddie

2g's have 2 o2 sensors, one after the cat. so yes thats most likely why you're CEL is on. just make sure the code is for the 2nd o2 sensor or something like that.

don't mess with the afc unless you know what you're doing. every car is different. you can roughly tune by watching your egt's while keeping them under 1450. but the best tuning is done by use of a datalogger while watching for timing advance.

The only type of tuning you can do with a S AFC on a 2g is by lots of trips down the track (with a datalogger looking for timing pull) or buying a eprom and setting your self up with the link. which would make the safc not needed anyway.

You can not use EGT's as a good tuning tool because you can lean yourself out so much that you start to get knock. The ecu will retard timing (hence the need for the data logger) to make a richer burn your EGT will go down and you will lean more to the point that you only get slower and slower.

Once tuned in,, you can use an EGT just to keep an eye on your settings. Your temps should be consistant with the conditions your engine is seeing (hard acceleration or just cruising).

You will spawn a CEL if you have a test pipe in a 2g unless you remove the 2nd O2 sensor and replace the void with a spark plug. (I forget which one fills the hole) once you remove the O2 sensor cover it in tinfoil and tie wrap it out of the way. wrap it in a plastic bag so it does not get wet.

You can fix the CEL by Disconnecting you bat for a few min pressing on the breaks a few times and then reconnecting. If it is the 2nd O2 it may take a little bit for it to come back on but by that time you will have a Pocketlogger so you can check and clear your code without having to disconect your bat.

Sorry So long
