Okay I want a stutter box for my car but don't know what will work. I don't want spend a lot of money or have to upgrade to a 1995 ECU.. What the best way to do it. BTW Jon from TRE told me you put less stress on a AWD Trans with a sutter box at 4500 then at a 6500 launch with tire spin. Thanks guys

I just recieved my MSD DIS 2, and I have a 97'. Yes it does have a 2 step rev limit. I will be setting mine at 5200rpm and then ultimately, an 8000rpm rev limit. Then again, it was $389.00, don't know if that is to much for you.

On the MSD, when a specific wire is grounded out, it lowers the ignition rev limit to a set rpm. If you set it at 5000rpm, (the msd is tapped to your RPM indicator), it stops producing spark to keep the revs at 5000RPM. This is excellent because you can then keep pushing the pedal down and it will force the turbo to build boost. I have known guys build as much as 20psi on the line before even moving (much like stalling an auto matic) 20psi is not recomended as your drivetrain will end up all over the track. The MSD can actually be wired to the clutch pedal so when the clutch is depressed, the rev limit lowers to your set amount. This is also key as you can keep your foot planted the whole way down the track, depress the clutch, and shift and then raise the clutch and you are only shifting at 5000RPM. Hard on the drivetrain and you are loading your cyliders with too much fuel but can help lower times. Any other questions?

I have heard that stutter box systems that retard spark can be detrimental to an engine since the fuel continues to wash over the piston and remove lubrication. Has anyone else ever heard of this phenomenon. I have the PMS which cut fuel instead of spark which would eliminate this if it were a problem.

The DSMlink has a built in 2 step based on speed sensor. As long as the speed sensor reports 0mph, it lowers your rev limiter to what ever you set it at. This retards fuel, not spark just like the PMS. Great system.

what if you took the time and money to upgrade your drive train, would it still be bad for a fwd car???what about on slicks???i've been interested in the whole stutter box thing for a while now, just not very familiar with it yet...

engine since the fuel continues to wash over the piston

This is not the case with the msd dis systems.

What it does is cut spark to one cylinter per rotation. The first turn say it cuts #1 and fires #2 #3 #4, then on the second rotation it cuts #2 and fires #1 #3 #4. Then on the next turn it fires #1 #2 #4 and cuts #3. and so on and so forth. That way it doesn't have problems with excess fuel cause it will be burned on the next rotation. You still waste some but not nearly as much as most systems.
