tuning ONLY with wideband?

Very simple question I have...By now everybody's getting sick of seing my name as the thread starter of the OBD II problems. I've done everything I can think of, but my OBD just isn't working, so my palm n' stein logger is currently useless. I've tried different loggers, had different garages look at it, nothing can be diagnosed. I'm not giving up yet, but I need to get tuning. If I get a wideband (which I KNOW I should have gotten long ago), what should I tune the a/f to to be on the safe side (since I can't see where my timing is being pulled)? 12:1 a/f?

I'm currently running a mildly ported FP Big28, 550cc, and re-wired 190lph, and s-afc II. I do not plan on changing this setup, yet I do not have any dyno places around here to hook up a temporary wideband to tune with.

Any help on this idea would be appreciated.

edit: Sorry for asking a question that has been covered numerous times before, I definetely did search. Just wanetd to get opinions cause at the moment I don't HAVE the choice of the logger :/

I aim for about 11.0:1 air/fuel ratio at full throttle on pump gas. On race gas I shoot for around 12.0:1 at full throttle. I will see if I can help with your other thread you mentioned.

thank you very much for the quick reply 92. I'm curious, my pump gas will be 93, why is it that I should go leaner on pump than with race gas (which at the track I go to I BELIEVE is 110)? Although I certainly understand you know what you're talking about, so that's what I'll shoot for. Okay so I'll do what I can with tuning on the wideband until I can get my logger working again. Thanks you again.

You have it backwards. 11.0:1 is richer than 12.0:1. The 11 or 12 is parts air. The one is parts fuel. Being leaner means you have more air for each part fuel.

I think you're confusing yourself. You'll be running RICHER on pump gas over race gas. 11.0:1 is richer than 12.0:1. The lower the first number, the richer it is, not the opposite.

Okay so I've been reading through some threads, I'm finding that people are saying to get the a/f ratio in the appropriate spot and THEN pull timing if necessary...so my question, I'm tuning only with a S-AFC II...is there a way I can seperately tune both (when I get my logger working)? Seems I can only be taking away or adding air which will effect the fuel, consequencely the timing. Am I missing something?

Ben :talon:

With your setup the timing doesn't apply since you don't have a way to adjust it.

PS, I posted in your other thread.

alright thank you, yeah it seemed that you could only fiddle with timing with dsmlink. Thanks :) I'll check out the other thread also. Hey I really appreciate your help today :) I JUST ordered my NGK AFX, so I'll get that installed later on this week and go from there hopefully so I can hit up the track next weekend.
