I was running some logs today to try and diagnose a persistent knock issue I've had since installing my 650cc injectors and gmaft and noticed that using MMCD it reported my timing advance at 750rpm idle as 8degrees. At the risk of sounding newbish, shouldn't it be more like 5degrees?

By the timing light method, base idle is 5 to 7 or 8 degrees as factory acceptable. Check the sticker under your hood if its still there.

My pocket logger never read that value. It was always another value, and I cant remember why, but it was normal, and probably the same with yours. Pocketlogger always read high (I believe it read 9 or higher at idle, but its been a while)

You're probably in range. Best to check your software, to see how it reads, and even better to use a timing light, with the proper plug grounding procedure.

8* is factory , i think it's 8.5 actually on a 2g. There's not a lot of difference in timing at idle, anywhere between 5-10 degrees is great for DD cars. Some race cars with locked distributors run as much as 35* at idle..but they idle at near 2k and spend most of their time wide open so the bad effects of that timing at idle is not noticed liek it would be on a street car.
