A Good Tunning Thread
hey guys. alright i just bought a new ECU for my car. it has been socketed and chipped with a stage 2 chip. now one of the things with this chip is that it has a + or - 5000 stutter box.
I'm new to the whole performance through computer technology but as i understand it, while the car is at a stop, the stutter box will actuvate at a certain rpm and retard the timing enough so that the combustion with happen outside of the cylinders in the exhaust manifold basically allowing the turbo to spool at a standstill.
My first question is, do i have to be at 5000 rpm's to activate this function? or is it adjustable and if so, how?
I just purchased a palmone zire 31 and have downloaded the Palmn'stein data logger, but i still need to buy the cable that connects the palm to the diagnostics port underneath the dash. does anybody know where i could find one?
I do also need the player program for my PC.
my other question is that when i finally do get the full data logger setup, how do i make changes to my fuel or engine management, such as my stutterbox?
If anybody has any good links to some solid information about data logging please let me know,
so in summary, just to be clear, i would like to know where i can get the cable that runs to my diagnostic port, the player program for my PC, and detailed info on how to make changes to engine or fuel management.
Thank you all!!
Jason.

If we are talking about Jeff's "dsmchips" chip,
Then when you turn the key to the "on" position, youre boost gauge will go to the last positon that you set your stutter to.(which is one of the notches on the stock boost gauge. Keep in mind the car is still off. Every time you tap the gas pedal, the needle will go to the next notch. Each notch represents a different rpm to launch from. Keep in mind that it does remember the rpmm you used last, but if you happen to touch the gas pedal again before as you start the car, you may adjust it up again.
Just test it out and slowly rev to check out if the stutter is working. Once the car is in motion, the nlts feature sets the rpm to a max of 6K between shifts.
Good Luck,
-Slick

hey thanks so much for the replies guys, just one more beginner question about the stutter, how safe is it for the valves V.S pistons? meaning are there any dangers in having the stutter? any chances that the timing retards to much and a piston smacks a valve or any other stresses to the valves?

There is no danger, because all it's really doing is dropping the redline to whatever the studderbox point is.
