Nova,
hey guys, there was this tuning tool that I belive was overlooked due to poor marketing. made by hypertech: "shogun power tuner". This thing is a direct plug and play, available for both !G and 2G. Check out the capabilities of this thing. Its not just a fuel tuning device like the AFC, but allows for control of ignition:
*Rev Limiter Adjustable In 500 RPM Increments
*Air/Fuel Ratio Adjustable In +/-2% Increments
*Ignition Timing Adjustable +/-1 Degree Increments
*Upgradeable For Tuning With Nitrous Oxide, Turbocharger or Supercharger
*Controller Displays "Live Time" RPM, Ignition, And Fuel Data While Driving
cost: $450

Check it out: www.caraddons.com/Catalog/subpages/Performance/hypertech_shogun.htm

If nobody has any horror stories about this thing, I may go ahead and be a guinea pig and buy it.

I know a lot of domestic guys that like Hypertech products, especially the LS1 crowd. Honestly, I've never heard of this specific product, but if it's cabable as you say it is, it might be worth the investment/experiment.

If you decide to test it out, keep us informed. Good luck.

I know a few people tried it out when it came out a few years ago & said it didn't work worth a #@%#@%#@%#@%... that's why nobody uses it now.

First off they should be selling in the $300 range because that's what they were new. Secondly, not all the features listed are compatable with a DSM, third (and this is the biggy), I don't think it works with a Karman HZ signal so that in and of itself pretty much eliminates it. Trust me, chances are if something has been "overlooked" for two years it's for a reason. Sorry to piss on your cornflakes but this is nothing new. We all know about it.

cool, thats the sort of info I was anticipating. Better to take a sh!t on my post than me going out and spending a wad on a POS.:)

I have to say though, that It would be nice if someone DID make somthing for solid accurate control of both spark and fuel for ~$300-$450

ah well, just get the AFC and tune spark the old fashioned way, guess I will have to pop my stupid hood for some things.

If you wanna tune ur dsm then these people might be able to help (http://www.tmo.com/prod/eprom/stages.shtml). You can do a couple of cool things like:Fuel cut removal, Boost limit removal, Rev limiter increased & my fave turn ur useless boost gage on ur dash into a air/fuel gage or Oxygen sensor meter & a couple of other good things. All for about 300 big ones. Don't know of anyone who is using one but sounds perty good.

i have a shogun well i borrowed it from a friend! its JUNK it does work the car runs but barley, I was scared to take it out of the driveway the idle was all over the place. Its very neat how its suppost to work and would be awesome if it did work but its not worth it at all DSM link is where its at. The shogun was set to stock setting when we installed it into my car and it wouldnt even idle right at all, idle jumped from 900 up to 3500 not good, not something worth the cash

The TMO is one of the best things going! The DSM link is nice as well but you can do just about all the same with the TMO!!! The great thing about the TMO is that it can be made for any of our ECU's. I know a bunch of guys using it and I personaly sent out ECU's for both my 98 and my 92 to get the stage 3 done. If you run at the track much you are gonna love the stutter box and the stutter shift put you launches right where you want them to be and won't over rev when power shifting!

For timing, try the APEX ITC if you can find one. Combined with the AFC, it be a useful tuning tool.

TMO
pocketlogger to moniter
S-AFC to adjust

that would be a kick ass setup

Basically dsm link does all that and it is in one package.

Too bad it only works on 95 ecu's or they would be way ahead of the market.

I replaeced my TMO (300), AFC (320), and pocketlogger (300) with the DSMlink (~560) No comparison. Now dont get me wrong, I loved my old setup, could tune like a madman on it, and ran 12.7 at 109 on a 14 with minimal mods in a full weight 2g, but the DSMlink is way ahead. Timing control is big time, and there is no lying to the ECU. All adjustments are made inside the ECU program. And the datalogger it uses is the best I have ever seen for OBDII (because it bypasses OBDII protocall when you connect ;) ) But now I'm rambling...

Newbies listen up, TMO NO LONGER EXISTS, it hasn't for years. In addition it had no way to control fuel or spark, it was not a tuning device. It was not much more than a two step rev limiter with a few other gimicky features added in. Usefull? Certainly. A tuning device? Hardly.

Duh. This is really old news.

STOP TALKING ABOUT TMO LIKE IT EXISTS

"Reprogrammed" is the operative word. For awhile he was helping current customers. He was not making any new ECUs. Now even the reprogramming has stopped. Don't believe me? Call him or e-mail him about his ECUs, you will get no response.

Trust me on this.

I have no idea, I wish I knew.

Why would be stop making ECUs? He gets 300 bucks to burn a chip. I heard someone got a hold of him and he said he moved and is now trying to get back up to speed. I got my TMO not too long ago, and he even answered the phone when I called, which is rare not matter what timeframe your talking about :)

I've tried calling and emailing TMO and have gotten no response.
Being new to the Turbo world I've been looking for good datalogging software for my 1g. I looks like I've been relegated to using the pocket logger. If someone knows of a good datalogging package for a 1g...I'd like to hear about it.
