will the 2g ecu even work on a 1g car? the dsmlink looks awesome and i really want to get one for my 1g.

I have heard people done it but I dont know how true that is. The question is why do you even want a 2G ECU on a 1G? It use OBDII (much slower sample rate, has more sensors input) and known not to be as aggressive in giving timing compared to a 1G. I'd rather spend the money getting a standalone if you have to go that route. You have full features and have a lot more control, capability of using MAP over the more restrictive MAS system, controlling more than 4 injectors, solenoids for nitrous, etc.

that's not the answer i was looking for. but actually it was a much better one. thanks. looks like i might go for the AEM.

A 2g ECU will not work in a 1g, so 1g's cannot use DSMLink. Although a 1g version is in the works, I wouldn't expect to see it soon..

it really sucks that they haven't made a 1g version yet. oh well.

For 1G, there is TMO chip that does a bunch of cool stuff.
Check out http://www.tmo.com
DSMlink has it's cool but I wont jump on it since we have pocketlogger, S-AFC, TMO stage 3 to replace it. The timing control is cool but 1G ECU has good timing curve so it's not really necessary.

i don't know. afc's just always seemed like a "dirty" way to fix you A/F curve. that's probably what i'll end up doing though. i really do like the TMO chips, just wish that you could actually tune the engine with it.

so...

$300 TMO Stage 3
$300 AFC
$155 pocketlogger cable
$105 palm m105

that's $850!!!!!!! jeezus. a standalone isn't much more than that.

The airflow correction thingy on the DSMlink is the same as the AFC if you think it's "clean".
Yeah, I agree it's more expensive if you buy it new but here is what you can it for:
1) Used TMO stage 3 chip (you need EPROM ECU)- $150-$180
2) Used S-AFC - $250-$275
3) Used pocketlogger - $80
4) Used palm - $50-$60

So, it's really not too far off in price.

AEM EMS is $1300 but you still need additional a MAP and temperature sensor run it in speed density mod.

.

No, that is not correct. DSMLink doesn't 'fool' the ECU like the AFC does; it is using the ECU and making adjustments. Plus, it has cool things like ignition control, stutter box, fan mod, better datalogging than a pocketlogger, and boost logging ability.
