My friend and I just got done doing a TB install. My current mods are all listed in my profile. I decided to try and tune my car again since we installed the 550s.

I had the boost controller set at 14, and I decided to run a bit more. I did a 3rd gear pull and was getting a good # of knock.

When I rolled into the throttle @ 2500 I got 4 counts of knock, and I left off at 3800 I was up to 16. My O2-R voltage stayed at .91-.93, INJP from 7-14ms, INJD only went up to 45%. Boost only got to 14.

My Timing started at 24 and dropped to 13 degrees. This time the boost never got over 14 also.

I riched up wot several clicks on the maft. Similiar results.

I checked the timing when I got home, and it showed 5 degrees. I retarded it a couple degrees and I'll try again later. I always run 93 octane. I wanted to know if you guys have any ideas, my friend and I thought it could be phantom knock but I assumed when that's a problem, knock is off the charts.

Thanks for any help :)

well lowering the timing didn't do any good. anytime I rolled into the throttle the knock count when up to the same levels.

yes ...ive had the same problem before...On my logger leaving a light 43 knock counts, rich as hell.Try to pull some fuel out if u got a afc...it sounds like maybe your before boost response is way too rich.Dont worry about knock that much unless you are on the gas petal hard.

is the car hesitant leaving red lights.just leaving the light normal...i had the problem and found out it was the ecu.Another thing you can try is "SEA FOAM" its this liquid you can get from advanced auto parts or im pretty sure anyother auto parts store.Suck it though the pcv vacuum line into the motor hold the car revved around 2000 or more otherwise it will try to stall. After you suck most of it out..shut the car off let it sit for awhile(15 min or so)and start it again and drive it.There will be allllllot of smoke comming out.I used half a can and put the other half in my tank.Stuff did wonders for my little knock issue i had.

thanks, I'll try that. I've read about the MMCD/similiar methods but have not tried. I guess now is a good time.

the car drives great everywhere else. throttle response is good, no sputtering, hestitating or anything not normal.

when you say before boost response, what do you mean? are you talking the mid/high trims? My high trim is around 100%, while the low/mid are 118%. Or do you mean take some fuel out around the 3-4k level on the MAFT? I don't have an AFC but I do have a MAFT + MMCD. Once I'm WOT the knock was steady at 10-14 from 3k-4k.

Time for a front mount ic . Knock is hard to get rid of, on 91 octane. I am only able to currently run 15 psi and have to run very rich to keep it from knocking . With no cold air intake and no fmic you are pushing the limit of what your motor can do . I would recomend getting a way to turn your timing map back down on the ecu . A piggy back unit , stand alone or a dsm chip would take care of that .

Or just spinning the CAS counter clockwise... How are you going to build a this motor you speak of when you don't even know 4g63 basics? Put a carb on it?

A local guy did some testing on the dyno witha customers car with a knock sensor. He made one pull with the original one, and logged knock. Then installed a brand new OEM sensor to a certain ft/lb torque, and logged the knock count, then tightened it down tighter, and logged knock.

He found that a new knock sensor will reduce the amount of knock you get, most of it is probably phantom knocl anyways. Also, he said the tighter you torque the sensor in, the more knock you will get. He made several pulls testing this..

This guy now works for AMS :)
