Welp, if you can't find someone who'll do it "dirty" for you -and do not breathe a word about it, to anyone if you can- then make sure everything looks okay and don't say a word about it. Use a smaller shop. Don't mention any mods, make sure you don't have any CELs, and make sure you have a cataclysmic diverter on it. Pay for a pre-test. And hope the non-dyno test is enough to save your bollocks.

on the plus side, most dyno's only have 1 wheel, and can't do dyno smogs on GSX's. I would say the straightpipe approach (have them smog a similar model car as yours and give you the cert) would be your best bet... I noticed that forced performance has a nice FP Big 28 that put them in the 11's@119 in a full weight GSX, might wanna check that out if you're looking for a stock motor... my reccomendation is get the hell outta the state while you still can... I had to go and get a good job, so I'm stuck here now.... oh yea... anyway, here's the turbo FP Big 28

my car passed and it was running like shit. i have intake, balance shafts removed and thats about it. i just put a new cat on it about 2 days before i smogged it. just make sure the car is running good and dont tell them about any mods you have if you A/F is good and you have a good cat it should pass.

The State gives full-time AWD a pass, they only have to do the idle/running sniff. And the usual visual and fuel cap test.

If you have the AWD then I wouldn't worry about the motor unless it smells really bad. If they actually put the car on the dyno then I think it would not pass. The higher compression pistons will put out more Nox.

Here is my first suggestion:
Take your car to a well respected DSM shop in southern CA. They like to build race cars and their engineering is top notch.
If that doesnt work for you then try this:
Your car should pass no problem emission wise. Make sure its good and warmed up. Dont let it idle for a long time before the test. The visual is what you need to be concerned with. Take your car to a shop that does a pre-test. There is no risk, if you are going to pass you will know it. If it fails they will unplug the phone line before the machine dials out to the DMV. Like some one said before, find a small shop and be friendly with them. Tell them you want a pre-test. When you say pre-test they will usually work with you to help you pass. Once you get smogged give the guy a big fat tip (Like $50 cash). Keep it on the low down. Trust me you will be glad you did the next time around. Show your face every few months so they remember you.
Thousands of people do it every day in CA!
