Cheap Toluene

I have been running 30% toluene [with 70% pump gas] a lot this summer. It is about $6.00/gal from a paint store. This 100 oct mix runs great in my car. I have recently heard you can buy Toluene by-the-drum for less than $3.00/gal from a chemical distributor. I have also heard this stuff has a small amount of zylene and benzene, but mostly toluene. At $2.00+ for 93 this isn't a bad deal. Mixing and handling Toluene is sort of a pain but the added power is definitely worth it. For those who don't know, toluene is a no lead additive in gasoline that happens to be 114 oct. Has anyone tried this?

Sorry I don't know your answer but I had a question for you Do you mix the fuel with this stuff outside of the tank or poor in the toluene before you fill the tank at the pump?

Out here 87 is freakin $2.00+ a gallon. 93/94 isn't even availible anymore 110 unleaded is about $5.00 a gallon... so sad...

Mixing Toluene

If I am adding toluene to existing 93 only I just pour it in and then whip the wheel back and forth for 1/2 mile or so to slosh it around. Yes I get funny looks. Many times I take a 5 gal can to the filling station and pour both in.
From what I've read toluene is denser than than ordinary gas and containg more energy per unit of volume [.87g/ml vs.72 to .74] It also contains more oxygen than gas meaning it has more power potential than the same octane leaded fuel.
I figure that the extra $145. I spend each summer to drive 6000 miles is worth it.

I've put xylene in my car before, from sherwin williams. It's 9 a gallon though. I thought my car pulled better, But it might have been in my mind. I found a gas station that sells 100octane cam 2 from the pump for 2.25 a gallon, No more need to mix gas for me

I've used Xlyene a few times, toluene isn't available in my area becuase of people using it to get high. Xylene is acutually higher octane than tolune, 117 octane vs. 114 octane. But toluene is prefered becuase of price and a couple of other things that I can't remember for sure, but I think it had some thing to do with how they burned.

Heres a couple of links I found while researching this a while back.

you also need a luberication in the toulene so all your gaskets dont drie out or dry your fuel lines. you better hope you been using something like atf oil, or marvel mystery like stated above. the mixture is 1 oz atf to each gallon. im pretty sure tats what all my supra friends use. also if your mixing 2 gals of toulene with say like 5 gal of 93 ## actually octane is 99 octane fyi. im gonna run it in mine during drags thats it.

MAKE YOUR OWN OCTANE BOOST
How to make your own octane booster (this is the basic formula of one of the popular octane booster products). To make eight 16 ounce bottles (128 oz = 1 gal):

100 oz of toulene for octane boost
25 oz of mineral spirits (cleaning agent)
3 oz of transmission fluid (lubricating agent)

This product is advertised as "octane booster with cleaning agent *and* lubricating agent!". Diesel fuel or kerosene can be substituted for mineral spirits and light turbine oil can be substituted for transmission fluid. Color can be added with petroleum dyes

also make sure you drink milk with your cookies so the cookies don't dry out your mouth!

toluene is an ingedient in gas.. all you are doing is upping the concentration of it. toluene is what the gas distributors use to alter the octane.. 93 has more toluene content than 87, and 89 is a mix of the two

you still need a lubercation thats why regular gas has lubercants and cleaners in them.

which is exactly why you don't need them. they are already there. you CAN if you want, there's no harm in it.. but it's not going to ruin your motor to not use them

well when you have 30% toulene its gonna dilute the lubication so it will dry out your gaskets and lines. theres extensive articles about it on supraforums.com

To get it for $3/gal, you typically need to buy it in 55 gallon drums.
