I recently had my ECU blow up o me and I can't justify replacing it with a new stock one for over a grand if i can go and buy a haltech e6k on ebay for like 600. i need to know if an e6k completely replaces the stock ecu.

It does replace the stock ECU but I don't recommend it unless you are planning on going all out race car. I run E6S but for everyday driving, I wouldn' mind going back to stock ECU + AFC.

I might suggest, Sir, that if you don't know for sure, either do the research until you ARE sure, or stay quiet.

Misinformation does no one here any good.

Yes, you could run an E6K on a street car quite successfully. However you lose knock control unless added via J&S. Standalones aren't for the masses, most people will be unhappy with them.

On a side note, the E11 is being released soon, and has very similar capabilities to the AEM and other high end units.

Yeah stock ecu cost me $85 www.car-part.com A guy around here ran a haltech for street use and melted his number 2 cause he was an idiot, standalone requires more work than most people want

I second that, Harryb. The program that came with the car (when I purchased it) was put in by Wrightouch and it still managed to melt my piston.
Let me tell you that it is a horrible feeling having to tow a car home from the first visit down to the track. I only had the car for a week. <-- That's me going insane. Especially when it was supposed to be in a perfect running condition but you don't find any mechanical failure when you open it up other than a bad program.
It's been running good since the rebuilt and a program change. Without any kind of base map, it takes a while and it is a lot of pain. Setting the fuel and ignition map is the easy part. Having to deal with air temp, coolant temp, barometric pressure, and etc. is the complicated part.

You have no idea what you are getting yourself into. Find a used ecu for under $150 bucks case closed.

STOP BUYING PARTS AT THE DEALER!! They always bend you over its not even funny.
