Stock 2.4 in a stock 2g with a stock auto, will it work?

I just picked up a 2g awd auto for nearly free. It's got a hole in the block, so the block is no good of course. I came across an very inexpensive(but in good running condition) engine from a 96 Galant 2.4L 4g64. The question is, will it bolt up to the auto trans, and will it run okay on the stock ecu/fuel sys/turbo?

I'm not looking to make it fast, I just want to sell it to make a little $$ so I can buy another 1G awd (which will be my 4th DSM )

I'm still looking for a 2.0 block for as cheap, but if this works, then I'll snag it and be set. And if I change my mind and decide to keep it and do ANOTHER 5spd swap, I'll have a nice 2.4 I can use.

Thanks,

The galant block will bolt on to your 2g awd. The cranks have the same strenght and rods are the same as your 2g awd. The pistons are weaker though on the galant motor so it may be a good idea to get a set of forged pistons. You will also need 94 galant dohc cam gears and timing belt since they are different than your 2g.

Thanks for the help man, I had read up on that already, I was more wondering if the stock ecu could handle the larger stroke. Not to mention a 2.3 spooling a t25

I just want to get the car running to sell, so I might just try to find a stock 7 bolt 2.0 to swap in if the 4g64 is too much of a headache. I know if I had plans to keep the car, I'd definately go with the 4g64

The stock fuel maps for the 2.0L will still work. The stroker can take a couple of degrees more timing than the stock 4G63, or can tolerate lower octane gas better.
See page 39 of http://www.kidzuku.com/StrokeOrNot.pdf. for more detail.

Spool a T25? I have a E316G on my stroker and spool up is very fast. With the T25 and stock fuel system fuel cut will probably come at part throttle.

If you're going to try to sell off the car to a normal non-DSM enthusiast you might run into some problems. As TunaTalon said, you will likely hit fuel kit at even part throttle, which does not feel nice. Additionally, the T25 and 2.4L WILL NOT like each other AT ALL. Big motors and small turbos are very knock sensitive.

My personal 2.4L + 16g already has tremendous knock issues which cause me to have to pull upwards of 8* timing to get it to run properly. I've come in contact with a few other people running a similar 2.4L + 16g setup with the same issues. I can only begin to imagine what it would be like with a T25. If you ran into the same problem with a stock ECU it woulnd't be a matter of if but when something gives from all the knock.

Unless you're selling the car to someone who knows what they're doing or are planning to upgrade it further, you're better off just finding a stock 2.0L motor. Plus, the 4g64's only become great when they have forged internals. A stock motor not meant for forced induction will not take it very well especially if the power is upped in the future.

Andrew
