I was looking into getting some strut bars.. however there seems to be a lot of different manufacturers of them.. I see some very cheap ones and some very expensive ones..

which brand do you use and how are they holding up?

For those of you who bought the cheap ones.. how are they holding up and which is the cheapest one that will actually last.. I did a search and someone actually broke theres while they were installing it.. OMG

I don't see the diff in brands.
They help but I wouldn't spend a ton of money.

i think a strut bar is a strut bar...it's a piece of metal that connects the top of your strut towers....not much to it. i'd get the cheapest one you can find if i was you. i got mine off ebay for really cheap, it looks and works great.

yup, ppl including myself... i got no name brand... prolly obx or so on ebay, and it works great... or your local speed shop should be able to get you OBX strut bars for about $40 or lower...

Just to throw in my $0.02, I picked up the front and rear bars off of eBay for about $30 each (shipped). Keep an eye out for procarparts.com on there, they're usually offering them at a decent price (just don't forget about the shipping charge, which is substantial).

I don't see how one works better than another as long as its made decently. I have an Aerogear front support bar. I think I paid 65 for it. It does its job. I can hang corners faster and the car lost some body roll.

thanks for all the replies.. the reason i asked was because it was brought up to my attention about the welds on different brand of strut bars.. and how some wouldnt be as strong as others.. but after everyone's responses i dont see any problem in buying the cheapest possible.. heh..

logic.. yea i heard of procarparts but it sucks that i live in cali i have to pay the extra in state tax

well its off to find cheap struts..

of course there is a different from bar to bar....Logic: If a bar is made of bad quality( IE soft steel or bad aluminum)) steel and is welded badly..they will have a tendency to roll/twist more then a strong good welded one.Its doesnt really matter that much on a streetdriven car but if you are to go track(not the quarter) then it would matter.

If you are to justy find one to get a little better cornering on the roads..it doesnt really matter wich one you use....

Just my O2..

A quick followup: I'm seeing the reasoning behind one-piece non-adjustable strut bars now. I needed to remove my front bar the other day, and one of the bolts securing the actual bar to the ring base had bent, making it impossible to remove the bolt without shearing it. (Which I did.) I suspect I'll end up with the same result with the replacement bolts I put on a few months down the road.

So, my revised recommendation: if it's for looks and a little rigidity, get the cheapest thing out there. If you're going to stress it at all, or have a problem with replacing the bolts when you remove the bar, you may want to move up the quality chain a bit.

Yes and a car is a car so buy a Yugo:rolleyes:

Does anyone know where they sell cheap rear strut bars for a 1g? I saw one somewhere for like $80 but i was thinking more like $30-40.

I have the RRE front and rear bars. My front bars are actually a 2 piece design. It includes there standard front bar and the piece that connects to a second set of bolts on the strut tower and has a section that connects to the firewall. Both front pieces resemble the triangular bracing used in RX7's. They are both soilid designs (no joints). The rear is there standard bar (has a joint). I really like these bars alot. On an otherwise stock suspension there was a noticeable improvement. Greater turn in capabilities, etc. They are powder coated a nice charcoal gray. I feel that they were well worth what I paid for them.

I don't know who made mine, but it is pretty well made, and has good, chunky hardware. Also it is adjustable with lock nuts on either end. This way I pretension it, so as to maximise its effectiveness.

There is a stock spec. on how far your strut mounts should be. If you have pretensioned it too much you are causing stress on the chasis. That fact that it is an adjustable strut bar make it far less effective than a soild one. The rod ends that are used to make the adjustment act as pivot points. Which still allow the chaiss to roll.

I agree on both points, but also, I have an answer for them :)

About the pretension, I did not go overboard, I still have to put the thing back on the strut tower bolts afterall :) I just snugged it up as to take the excessive slop out of it.

and as for the other point about the piece not being solid, this one has adjusting bolts that go way inside the main piece. Like 3" in. and the hardware is all large, strong pieces.

as well, I am using this car for the street, and as a daily driver, so each 10th of a sec on Laguna Seca will not be really important. If I was autoX ing it or something, then I would have to get every part the best I can.
