What are the differences between the 3G Eclipse wheels and the 97-99 GSX wheels? I know that the newer ones are a 2-piece design (is it me or do they look like 16's instead of 17's?).

I thought they were the exact same...

They are slightly different and I have heard the 3g ones don't have the same bending problem the 2g ones had.

The 2G GSX wheels were a 2 piece design with a painted silver face and a polished metal lip. Because they were a 2 piece design the spokes extended all the way to the lip therefore making them appear larger. The 3G GT wheels are a 1 piece design that is painted silver, to give them the appearance of a lip, the spokes stop short and curve inward. This also makes them appear smaller. Some would prefer the 3G wheels over the 2G wheels because the 2G wheels have been known to come apart and also bend easier, the 3G wheels are also lighter. Hope this clears this up, I would post pics but I'm too lazy to search for them. Later.

Interesting. i never looked at a 3G long enough to notice.

All the owners that I know that had the GSX wheels on there 3Gs hated them, they bend so damn easy.

im in the process of maybe getting 3g wheels that look like the GSX rims. i thought they were exactly the same.. but after reading this thread.. apprently not..

anyone have a side by side picture comparison between the 2? they are also 17s right?

Also the 3g ones come in chrome if that makes any difference for anyone here.

Those are the 2G GSX wheels (duh). Notice how the spokes go almost all the way to the edge of the lip. This is due to their 2 piece design.



These are the 3G wheels (duh again) this is kind of a carppy pic but if you look at the rear wheel in particular you can see how the spokes stop short and curve inward.

There was a thread in the Hangout a while back where a guy had 3G wheels on the front and 2G wheels on the back and he didn't know it. I'll look and see if I can find it.

The ones on the spyder directly above your post are 3G wheels. That is a much better pic than the one I posted but it was all I could find, or was willing to look for.

there are 3g rims that do have a polished lip, and where the spoke goes all the way to the lip. If you look closely at my rims...you can see that there is no polished lip, and the spokes bend inward, towards the inside of the wheel. But yes, they are very similar...to the untrained eye.

As some of you may or may not know, I'm a salesperson at a dealership. We used to sell Mitsu. It was funny how they put the GSX looking wheels on so few of the 3g's. I think that we had like 3 spyders and two coupes in all of the 2000 and 2001 model years that had those wheels. But they look so much better imo than the six spoke you see on the majority of 3g's. If you get close enough, there is a diff. between the 3g's and 2g's wheel.

Also what size tire can I run on those? I'd like to use a 215 minimum width and around a 55 side wall
