So... I'm driving next to my friends uncle... He's got like a 2000 V6 firebird and we are driving down the street around 10:30 ish (it's dark). We are going about 50-55 mph...

A deer hops out of the field on the right. I'm in the left lane, his in the right. I hit the brakes pretty hard, he locks them up. I hear his car screeching and sliding. His rear end whips to the right; his front left corner slams the front right 1/4 panel of my car. The passenger window shatters This forces my car to swerve left.

I jump the median and i'm flying through some bushes and several smaller trees. I see a 4-5 inch diameter tree coming straight towards me.. I'm still doing about 30-35 i close my eyes and brace for impact.

I hear branches breaking all around me as i'm still sliding through the median.. Now my car is starting to swerve right. I go through another bush and land back on the street. I skid 180* and land back in traffic, facing the wrong direction. The car was still in gear and died. I sat there dazed for a minute. I asked my passenger if he was alright. He said he was ok.

My friend uncle put his rear end up on the median as well, but didn't do nearly as much damage as my car. He was able to keep it on the street and looped back around to check on me. I limped the car back to the house a few blocks away. By the way it was running and sputtering i knew i had knocked an IC hose off.

I got it back to the house and called the cops. The guy came over with his car, once he swapped out his rear tire (it was flat).

My car isn't looking so hot right now.. but i'm hoping that most of it is just cosmetic. I'll get some better pictures in the daylight. I tore the splash guard off the wheel well and checked the SMIC. The top hose had come off. I put that back on, and fired it up. It sounded normal to me, so hopefully that means that there wasn't much engine damage.

Dude that's ugly!

Well it looks to me it's worth the time to just go through insurance on both cars. I'd check for alignment of your frame, but most of it looks to be the outer panels of everything. The firebird I can't tell if it's just his bumper cover or the fender as well.

Sounds like you might be lucky and everything's all good on the car, maybe you can hope they total it and you take the money and buy it back.. that's always a nice thing.

Tough luck man, did you get the number off that deer? :)

Cops say anything about it all?

the cop was pretty cool... She was pretty understanding about it all. She didn't really mind much that we left the scene.. She did ask me however if we were racing. I told her no.. She said "honestly?" I said no again. Then she believed me and said she just had to check it out because they have had an increase in the number of street racing incidents. Imagine that.

I'll try and get some pictures of the area tomorrow.. I swear i went through like 4 trees. I really hope they don't total the car. I love this thing to death.

I guess i'm not really sure what to do now. I'll have to talk it over with my parents.. They were pretty cool with the whole thing. They were just glad that i was ok. Cars are replaceable.. People.. not so easy.

I'll have to drive back tomorrow in something and see if i can find some parts to my car. I know the little SMIC ducting is off somewhere. I'm sure there are other small thing too. My driver side foglight is missing too.

The thing that pisses me off the most though? less than a week old tires, balanced and aligned Khumo Ecsta Supra 712's. My rear passenger rim looks like it's been dropkicked off the empire state building.

Oh well. Change is good i guess

I hit a pothole hard enough to do something like that to the rim, unfortunately a chunk got ripped off. The rear tire may be perfectly fine if it does not leak, and most likely can be fixed.

As for the totalling.. it actually works in your favour. If they deem that the damage is more than 50% of the worth (since you have a 95 it's worth like 5K or so) Then they total it. So they give you the 5K, you can most likely buy the car back for like 1K and you have the extra 4K to fix it/part it out etc. Now from what I see you need a new front bumper (time for body kit or 97-99 swap :) hehe) Then you need a fender, side mirror, glass, and that ugly dent inside the passenger well.. that might be a prob.

Anyways if that is the extent of the damage you're looking at maybe 1K or a bit more for everything. Soooo....... you still have tons of change left over for more mods ;)

Of course the car will have a salvage title if you <ahem> ever sell it and it would damage that value. But heck, I'd take the extra pocket change.

Glad everyone's okay.. guess you didn't hit big enough bushes.. kind of makes you wonder if your airbags work or not since they weren't set off from you romping through bushes etc.

Thanks for the advice.. We'll see how it goes tomorrow. I couldn't just sit here any more, so i drove my moms car out and took a few pictures of the scene...

Looks like i came up on the curb close to here

Ok... That's it for now.. i better get to bed. It's been a long day

Greatest sympathies, and delight that you can tell us about it. What, the damned Fireturd can't stop in a straight line? argh.

Really sorry about it, glad you're okay.

Frame damage was found on the lower section near the door, and also on the front bumper support (where i chopped the tree in half). Car was declared a total loss. I was rather upset when i heard the news from mitsu. It really bummed me out.

I went up there earlier w/ my dad and we cleaned out the car, and took the liberties of removing my few mods. I also managed to gank the Eprom and a few momentos (ie: Shiftknob)

*sigh*

I find out on monday/tuesday how much i'll be getting from INS, and how much the salvage price is. My dad doesn't want me parting it out, and i think it is beyond my knowledge/skill/time to repair.

Sucks. I guess, on to bigger and better things.

Hey Dude,

Read the other post... your loss might be a gain in the end. Even though mitsu decided a total loss, if you can buy back the car for pennies (which is common) Then the damage should not be so bad to replace, especially if you have someone good in body work, and you use the classifieds such as this board to get the old parts from other cars. Bumper support is easily found, as well as the door and front bumper covers.

Keep it in mind if you want to stick with dsm's.. if they write off the cheque for enough money, sure you can get something new...

Not all is lost..

i'm with him, dont let a bad thing get you down, you can always find a way to get something out of a bad situation, even if it was only your precious ass being able to walk! I've hit a deer.... sent him at least 15-20 feet up in the air, about 150 feet away from impact, i hit him going 80 km's (about 55 miles) I tore his back legs off, i juust barely clipped him, but i still got him and sent his poor ass through a 5 inch tree... cop had to come and shoot it 4 times, thats right 4 times in the head. i swear it wasnt dead the first 3 times. oh, and of course, no insurance. I dont have pics of the accedent i dont like showing my misfourtunes, notice i dont have a gallery to post in haha. Yea anyways, i'm sure you could come out of this with a newer looking car and fuller pockets in the end, you never know, maybe someone will buy the ass of your car for parts, theres always someone out there who needs 'em

i also got hit by a deer once,an audi driving in the other direktion hit the deer hard, the deer came flying towards me,i slamed on the brakes and the deer kinda got stuck halway under my car(to the Eclipse,it was the Omega-damn,that car was built like a tank)the only damage was the Bumper Lip and my alignment was off like 2 degrees, but i was soo F#(kin scared,a thought id hit a Horse or something. But the poor animal didnt suffer,it was already dead as it flew thru the air to hit me(that Audi was OWNED!)

Anyway, just buy back ur car and fix it,in the mean while, just buy a crapy $200 car to drive around, and take your time fixing ur Talon.
