I dunno if it is like this in the other trims but when I have my window rolled down and shut the door leaving the window down it makes this big clanking sound like its not right. The sound isn't normal....you guys know what im talkin about? What can i do to get this fixed, having padding in their or something? Thanks guys....

This happend to mine too. If you take off the door panel there are felt guides that are supposed to be tight with the window. Mine rattled loose so I put some locktight on them and then snugged them back up to the glass. You have to try it a couple off time to get it adjusted right. theres two pads one in front and one in back.

In addition to checking the felts you may also want to tighten the bolts that hold the window on inside the door. I had to tighten the front bolt a couple of times and finally I put plumbers tape on it and tightened it and haven't had a problem with the window being loose since.

Yep, same thing. The first time I closed my door and heard it I turned around and said "What in the ####" and everyone looked at, quite embarassing... It doesnt bother me that much though it was hard getting used to though.

wow...everyone has this problem and 2nd gear grinding. But yeah mine does this to but thing is also when I have the window all the way, the door doesn't completely close because the window just hits the weatherstripping and stay there, so I have to leave the window down just a crack to have the door close all the way. I dunno maybe I'll try doing what you guys said, but mine doesn't seem to be all that annoying.

mine makes that sound when the windows are down and i shut the door. its a nice clanging sound.

yup, same thing with me. i thought i was the only one though, since whoever owned the car befor me tinted the windows, so i thought they screwed it up. nice to know i'm not the only one

Alright, someone posted here the fix for it, but didnt fully post how to do it. Here is how the fix goes guys:

Roll the window at least 75% down. Take off the door panel, there are quite a few screws, as well as one in the main handle, and in the little cup piece. Now unclip the wiring for the door panel. Once you do this then unscrew and take out the speaker. Once you do this look inside and to the right of the speaker hole, where the window connects to the rail. You will see a brass colored bracket that actually connects to the window itself. Take a small socket wrench and use a 10mm socket and remove the one nut holding on the bracket. Once you remove the nut, then actually take off the bracket and pull it out from the door. With it in your hands take a set of pliars etc, and crimp down the piece of plastic that you see, tighten it nicely. Once you do this just do the exact reverse to reinstall.

Honestly this sounds complicated, but go ahead and attempt it, it will take you no more than 10 minutes at absolute most if you ahve taken the door panel off before. This seriously is the end all to the window rattle problem, that as a 2g owner, I had problems for years until I recently tried this fix. Now just sit back and enjoy the quiet windows :).

O yea, for an extra added bonus here I'll tell you another trick I've done as well. Go to Lowe's etc and pick up a can of "great stuff" expanding foam. This is the foam you would use for sealant around window cracks in your home, and it comes in a red can. With the door panel off spray the back of it all over, paying close attention to the nooks and crannies. The stuff expands slightly so dont go absolutely wild, but do put quite a bit on, and as I said pay very close attention to applying it to ALL parts that might creak. It takes an hour to dry, and honestly when you are done the door panel is so absolutely solid you wont hear a single peep from it. Before the door panel would creak like crazy everytime you pulled or pushed on it, and now I can no lie punch the panel and all it makes is a "Thud". This in combination with the window rattle fix, will make your doors a million times better. It will take all of 20 minutes total, to do the window fix and also apply the foam to the back of the door, and you couldnt be happier with the results. The foam costs 5 dollars a can, and the can weighs in at 1lb total of foam, so dont worry about weight for you guys that are seriously into the weight diet thing. :)

Haha, dude you must hawk every body tech forum us DSMs have, I was just posting a minute ago over on the DSMtalk body forums and you were right there behind me with replies the moment I made a post :).

GREAT idea, the 2G sounds just crappy compared to the 1G, I was just blaming it mostly on the lack of a window frame.

THANKS:thumb:

Well the fix I posted works, so why not go out this weekend and pick up some of the great stuff foam and just get to work fixing the window rattle and the panel creaks, it's supposed to be a nice weekend here on the east coast anyway, perfect time to do it. And I know all of you have 20 minutes to spare :). I wish I could show you guys my drivers door (which is the only one I've had time to do since the weather has been so bad and cold lately) because if you saw it I guarantee you'd be right out there doing it.

I guess I will also go ahead and add in the fact that this great stuff foam can be used on any panel to rattle-proof it. Other good panels to hit are the hatch panels, that are actually located on the underside of the hatch itself. Before I used it on them they would rattle back and forth if you knocked on them, now they are as solid as wood. It's really rediculous actually. I only used it on those panels becuase I know there is little likelihood that I will be taking them back off anytime soon. With the door panels I actually let the foam dry while the panel was off, so that the panels are easily removed anytime I want to take them off.

My '92 Firebird also had the window clank. It had T-tops, so it did not have door frame rails, this may have somthing to do with it.....
