My Talon has been broken down more than it's been running. I've taken it to a few different shops, and have pretty much been ripped most of the time.

I'm in San Francisco Bay Area, CA.
-Anyone know a good shop?

Thanx,

I recommend you take your car to PSI in hayward. They're good people. That's where I take my car always. Check them out they have a website www.prostreetonline.com They're also some other guys in this forums here that take they're car there too. Hope they can help you out.

Midnight Performance in Rancho Cordova, a lot of his customers drive down from the Bay Area....he has a 2g DSM there right now that should be dynoing around 500-600hp, they're just playing with the fuel system for the guy now so they can slap it on the dyno

owner is Warren, Ryan works sales...either can help you, the # is (916)852-6887

edit: oh yeah, website is www.midnightperformance.com

Based on personal experience, I would never deal with Prostreet again and would never let a friend of mine deal with them either.

I don't ever recall hearing a bad thing about RRE.

I still have personal experience telling me that PSI is a good shop to go to. A lot of ppl on here like to base their opinions on bad things they "heard"...without any personal experience to base their judgement on. It's easy to rip on something you don't know.

RRE is a good shop in socal. PSI is a good shop in the sf bay area. That's my experience.

If you want an opinion from someone who has spent lots of money at each....read the above. Try doing a search for prostreet on these boards. You'll find this has been covered many times before.

Being a good consumer involves using all the various ways to checkout a company. This board is highly informative but it is also composed of anonymous contributors and has a policy of "no bashing". Stopping at a search here is probably not what you want to do if you are going to spend a lot of money on something.

With regard to any vendor, I would encourage folks to contact the Better Business Bureau and any other consumer interest organizations that are in their area. As an attorney friend once said,: knowledge is power.

I've been to PSI a few times. I'll just say I've had bad luck with them. (More than once). I was hoping there was somebody else.

*I think I'm gonna try to do the clutch myself. (I think I just need a new throw out bearing... well I hope!)
-I'm confident I can do it, but I've just never done it before. If I had somebody who could help me, or walk me through it, I'd be in there, but I don't have any mechanic friends. (Anyone in the Bay Area wanna help a fellow DSMer out?)

Thanx,

DSS in SLO town...I live here in SLO and its not too far...Mike is a really busy guy so give him a call. He and this guy Andrew are doing the work on cars...and they are GOOD. They will make sure your stuff works...if other stuff is funny they will look into it and tell you about it. I always take my car to Mike if I can't do it myself, he's always doggin on me cause most of the stuff I mess up on but it isn't my fault its cause the parts I get don't fit right and have to be refabricated. But oh well...he is a really nice guy, won't screw you over, and helps you out.

Hm. I picked my shop because it was close enough to walk to, and because the counter guy knew some pretty obscure car stuff. The did my smog, and sounded like good, competent fellows. I needed a clutch, and I had a mysterious AC problem. They'd not done a Talon/E/L clutch before, but the counter guy spoke with the mechanics and they said they'd learn. My days of doing this stuff myself are over, thanks.
It took them about two weeks to get the clutch done, during which they told me about what they'd found that Satan had done when they did the belts- missing bolts, and as it turned out, the failure of the AC was from the dealer ripping out the wires to the overheat sensor inside the compressor, destroying the sensor.
I stopped by once a week to see how the jobs were doing, but not to bother them about it- I've been on their side of the wrench. They wound up going through the entire electrical system, comparing readings to spec in order to fix the AC.
They did the jobs right. They weren't cheap, but they were fair. I know they didn't charge me for all the time they spent on the car.
It's Galt Auto Service here, and next job that's too much for me is going to go back to them.

I've tried to support the various local shops, here in Santa Cruz, and with the exception of a local clutch shop that installed my Clutchmaster's (the Clutch House -- one day, by the way), I've not had much luck. I always lose some parts, have hours turn into days, or end up[ with a few new dents in the fenders. There's another thread on here someplace that talks about the whole dealer-mechanic issue.

I finally figured out that a well stocked tool-box, an engine hoist, VFAQ, dsmtuners, and the right six-pack can handle most situations. If it gets too hard, I'm headed to RRE.

For a clutch job I had a good experience with Clutch Express in Sunnyvale. One day turnaround and everything was put back together the same way it came off. He even added a new lower radiator hose because he tore the old one during removal (it was really old), and he didn't charge for it. Not that it's expensive, but it shows he wants to do the job right.

I've deleted a few messages that were bashing a local shop. The guy was asking "where to take his car", not "where not to take his car". If you guys would have just stuck to recommending a shop instead of bashing, I wouldn't have had to close the thread.

This site is not to be used to complain about a shop's service. We will not put up with shop bashing. If you had a bad experience, then don't recommend that shop, but we also expect that you will not use our forums to bad mouth the shop. That's not what we're here for. Customer service is too subjective, and there are other sites available where you can post your complaints. Don't use ours for this.

Rule number 3 in our Guidelines states:
"NO PERSONAL ATTACKS or arguments with other members. No complaints about shops, other websites, or buyers/sellers. If you see this in our forums, report the thread."
