When do you shift? [Merged 7-8] points shifting revs point

It will depend on mods mostly/driver. When racing with stock 14b and few mods I didnt have much top end so I usuall shifted at like 6200-6600 depending on which gear I was in. With the 16g I have way more top end and should shift closer to redline...

isn't the redline like 7000rpm on your car? i would shift at like around 7200 through 1st and 2nd then 6800-7000 though-out the rest of your gears.

For full-on maximum acceleration, changing points should be where max BHP is developed, but i always tend to change gear at 6000rpm (my redline) even though peak power is at 5100rpm. This helps keep it in the power band and would be the same for any car. For normal everyday driving you should aim to keep you revs at the point maximum torque is produced then change. You can see that being a potential problem if you drive a Honda, where peak torque is often around the 5000rpm limit...

Ok i've had some problems when racing a couple of v8's (mustang gt and z28)... i seem to pull and be winning most of the race, but right at the shift from 3rd to 4th they pass me... almost as if my car just lets go. its not a creap... they just pass me by.....

I have a 2g GST and I shift all gears at around 7200-7350 rpms...
should I shift earlier? Am I loosing power at the top of 3rd which is why they seem to pass me at this point?

What can i do to help my car stay strong?
Note: i'm only running 12 psi at the top of 3rd gear then when i shift to 4th i hit 13-14 psi at full boost.

I shift at redline(when racing) though I have the mods to have power at that RPM if you have the stock turbo on a 2G 5700rpms should be your highest shift point.

if you are still on the t25, shift alot earlier..........that thing gives uup after 6000 rpm at the latest. try shifting earlier and see if that keeps your lead up. also keep in mind that those v8's have some really good highway power, so if you keep racing after 3rd gear which ends around what.........90 mph........they will start pulling back up unless you have some serioius mods. if i were you, i'd qquit after 65 or so.......that's a good enough street race.

When does everyone shift in town? at what RPM. In town i usually do right around 2500. what bout when racing, i kno with the T-25 there is no point in redlining cause its outta power by then but what do yall shirt at. Just wondering

Although the mechanics of my car are different and you could give two tits; I shift at about 2500rpm when driving sanely. That's just enough to let me hear the turbo spool for a little bit until shift time :D For racing the shift is made at 6500-6750 and I sp00ge at the sound of the open wastegate dump tube.

yea I love that sound to. I love pulling up next to Mustand and Camero's and just reving it and letting the blow off valve and everything click, they just back away.

Just crusing, usually around 2500 like everyone else. But, when I'm racing, 5000. God damn fuel cut. :(

:dsm: :talon: :laser:

i'm literally scared to bring my car over 4000 rpm's when driving a little faster than normal, but i usually shift at 3000. Is there a minimum rpm's of where i should be driving at? I try saving on gas a lot due to all the problems in my car, i do mabye 45 miles to 7.00$, after converting them to u.s. standards

either way, my car idles at about 600 most of the time, so i have to punch the gas a tiny bit every time just to get the rpm's up there to shift proporly, and 20% of the time i get myself a rough start.

I'm doing a SHITLOAD of repairs in about a week so it'll all be good soon.

just curseing around I shift at 2800-3000rpm when raceing 6,000-6,200

with the stock exhaust I dont have alot of top end so I dont normaly wind it out all THAT far. (although there was that time I ran to 7,100rpm in 4th at commerce drag strip.)

^^ I missed 2nd and was trying to recover some time.

nobody else caught this typo?

btw i usually shift right before the turbo spools at about 2500 for everyday normal shit, if i feel like cruisin i'll let it spool to 3500

if im racing i'll go to 6000

I don't get it. Nobody here takes their car to redline. Why not, I thought more mods would allow higher shift points. My motor is stock and it pulls hard all the way to redline(1g Turbo). What's the reason for these low shift points??

My reason is because I get fuel cut at 5 grand. If i could go past that I definitely would.

I can't remeber, my car hasn't run since May:cry: The motor I have built for it redlines at 8,500 RPM's though:)

3K normal driving. Good drivers dont have to know what RPM's they shift at. I dont look at my tach when I am racing. I mostly pay attention to my shifts and all my concentration to the sound of my engine. I know when to shift by the sound of my engine and i feel for my powerband. And now I feel my turbo:cool:
