I installed a Bosal 3" catback on my 98 GSX. I still have the OEM turbo, cat and downpipe. The thing is way too loud. My ears hurt from the interior resonance especially on the highway. I can't even enjoy the stereo. I put the OEM exhaust bakc on. Bosal advertises street legal noise levels - not even. I'm going to ask Extreme Motorsports to weld in a resonator. Any other suggestions?? BTW the Bosal exhaust is beautiful. All stainless with sweet dual 3.5" tips.

Maybe just leave the OEM on during normal day-to-day driving and just unbolt the exhaust for the track?

I don't know about your application so I'm just throwing it out there.

Sell it and buy a "non-bling" system with more reasonable outlets, or keep adding resonators until you can tolerate the noise.

Chop that bosal muffler off and put a 3" oval magnaflow on there. The 18 inch ones that RRE sells are pretty quiet.

I have thought of doing this to my car. Geting one of those 3" electric cut outs and placing it inline with my exhaust then drilling a couple holes in the plate so when it is closed it would be like a silencer. But when I open it, it will be free flowing cause it would be side ways. What do you guys think? this way if a cop pulls up behind me I just flip a switch and I then have a quiet exhaust.

I think V-8s have been using "header dump" switches for a long time

I know Arospeed sells something ment for that. Its almost just a headers dump, but doesnt close all the way. You put it inbetween the Cat or TP and the cat-back, and its ####-pit adjustable.

Apex sells something just like it, yet you can only get it from Japan...

If you want to keep the system then just keep adding resonators. i would suggest about 3 of them to see a noticeable difference. You can get them from most muffler shops or if you can't find them we have them as well.

I had the same problem with the RNR exhaust. I went with the O2 elim and 3" back with the bullet muffler. It didn't sound like a civic, but it was entirely too loud for me. I bought a dynomax muffler for it and put it just after the second O2 sensor. It is essentially the same exact muffler as the bullet in the back, but not flashy. It has made it MUCH better.

I put a bosal on someones 2g yesterday. He's waiting for a turbo and a ss DP. So I have yet to hear it.

The build quality and fit were good. It went in and cleared everything evenly on the first go. It hugs tight to the bottom of the car so you guys who dropped it will like it. The muffler sits just like the OE and the pipe is about as high up in the frame as a 3" tube will go with excellent clearance.

My guess is to lop off those big angle cut megaphone tips where they are welded to the Y and weld on two 3" round regular tips that look like a stock turbo car or get 3" round resonated tips. I think the majority of it comes from the tips. It's almost like when old farts put "megs" on the tailpipes of their 32 fords.

PA megaphones are'nt loud because the are a straight walled tube with fiberglass covering the inner wall. It's a hard cone shape and just the thing to make racket.

Other than the over the top tips I really could'nt find a flaw in what we bolted on. I don't like the look of the tips either. Everything else no gripes yet.

90% of the time, cockpit resonance is caused by a pre-muffler exhaust leak.

Check for that.

If you use a straight-through drilled core resonator (a bullet muffler), then it won't restrict flow. I'm running one of these, and an Edelbrock RPM series muffler, and my exhaust is noticably quieter and better sounding then friends' BR 2.5 inch systems.

That is what the system looks like.

Even if some people think it needs a resonator you wont find that much mandrel bent polished SS, perfectly aligned hangers and good welds anywhere else that cheap.

I would first check your stock exhaust components from the o2 housing back. The OE flex section is weak it and other factory exhaust transitions can and do fail. The flanges on the bosal are thick so I don't think the "axle back" to cat back connection flange is leaking.

Check the cat itself. I know my OE had some pin holes in it hidden under the heatsheild.
