I have a noticeable amout of vibration when I hit 3500 RPM. Suggestions as to what it could be besides the balance shafts? It's not vehicle speed dependant, it happens when i'm taking off from a stop and going through the gears or cruising a 75 on the highway. Could it be motormounts or a pulley or something? If it is the balance shafts, what is it about them that goes wrong and how do I fix it?

I'm getting ready to do maintenance since I just bought my car and it has 200k on it. I'm changing the valvecover gasket along with the 1/2 moon and spark plug O rings. I have the timing belt, H2O pump, and balance shaft belt. What else should I be doing at the same time? I have read that there are pulleys and or tensioners that should be replaced also. If so, what are they and how many of each are there?

I know multiple questions s rolled all in one, but I figure get them all out now rather than make 10 posts, LOL.:D Any help is GREATLY appreciated, it's my first DSM and don't want to blow it up due to negligence:D

When I first got my car it had the same weird vibration. The car ran fine except for that it had that vibration around the midrange RPM. It wound up being that the guy that owned it before me had the balance shaft out of phase. The marks will line up properly but it can still be wrong. Because he didnt know any better when he did the timing and balance belts the car had that vibration no matter what else got fixed. Check to see if that is the case when you do all of your maintenance.

There are 4 items that you should be concerned with, you got everything else.

The timing belt tensioner pulley, the balance shaft belt tension pulley (two blue ones pullies), the idler pulley (the red one), and the timing belt tension. You can get these at almost all DSM performance shops, any Mitsubishi Dealership, or any auto parts store.

Also since you got the waterpump, make sure you have the gasket and O-ring for it as well, normally this comes with the waterpump, but the last one I got didn't come with it and I got stuck, thats what I got for not opening the box before I start.

I'll add pictures in a second to show all the parts you need in a minute.

I added more pictures of components of the timing assembly, I know you said you already had them. Also I will add the below links. This is a "know all, do all" thread, for all future questions concerning doing a timing belt job.

This is a COMPLETE walkthrough on how to do a timing belt change. You can't get any more complete then this one.

These guys sell a tool to help adjust the timing belt tensioner pulley. I haven't used it, but wish I had something like this to help me do it.
