has anyone thought about taking off the hatch and cruising in a new style convertible coupe pickup. or like manufacturoring something to look somewhat like a flatbed

In all seriousness, this may cause drag but it relieves us dsmers with about 150 lbs of weight savings if Im right.

Than maybe a carbon fiber or fiberglass can be used to cover the original groove of the hatch to make it convertible. So you take the hatch off on nice summer days but you put it back on for winter.

If you were going to seriously do that, to make it look good..if possible? You would have to cut down, inbetween the front side window and rear side window, to get the right shape.

maybe like a nsx look would work good

There was a 1g like down like that...I don't have the picture but search around i'm sure you could find it. When the baja came out I though the designers must have seen that picture (look very similar).

They did this with one of the big drift 240sx cars. It is orange but I can't remember what company it was that did it. They took the hatch off and fabricated a cutdown and a touneau (sp?) cover and it made it look like an elcamino. I have often though about taking the hatch off but always thought it was a pain in the ass and would do more bad than good for performance. Leave it for the n/ts

Theres a company that makes a replacement style hatch for 1g rx7's that takes the window hatch out and puts in like a trunk, kinda like a honda Civic Del sol

Apparently, Australians are crazy about UTEs, they even made a 240 into a UTE. A little goofy looking, but it sure could drift.

Alot of it could be for performanc use like the RX7. This could be fesible with enough knowledge of sheetmetaling and fiberglassing. I personally wouldnt do it I would simply find a lexan window or something but that's just me.
