full boost at 1500rpm, bogging, won't accelerate.....

This morning my car broke. The car would start and idle fine, but when I put the car in gear (automatic gsx) it would drive fine at really low speed (like up to 10 mph) but any faster and it felt like there was seriously some thing holding the car back. It would shift to second and third way too early. I had the car at quarter throttle, at 1500 rpm's I had 12 pounds of boost, and the car felt like it was going up a steep hill. It wouldn't go over 3000 rpm or it would sputter and almost die.



Again, starts and idles normally out of gear.

boost leeks ussually prevent quick spool, and I did just redue the piping a week or so ago. I rememeber when i had a big leak, the car drove fine, would rev great, but had no power. This feels like the e brake is on or some thing.



oldman, when i was checking my tranny fluid, some thing wierd happened. I couldn't pull the dip stick out, it felt like there was some thing in the dip tube and i couldn't pull it out. Once i finally yanked on it, there was fluid across the entire stick. I haven't shown any signs that I was missing any fluid so i haven't even put any in for the last 6 months or so.
 
I'm not a tranny expert but your problem sounds like it's tranny related. Maybe you would get better answers in the A/T tranny section. Good luck.
 
how were your drving habits latley? were they a little hard? because you may of blown a clutch pack in your tranny......
 
driving habits were fine, nothing abnormal. Turned off the car in perfect working order, started up a perfectly broken car.
 
same problem happened to me this morning....

I drive a good 20 minutes to school every day, but today was different. half way to school my car was at a red light, once i accelerated from the light the car suddenly sounded louder... spooling louder and blowing off louder. I got NO power when I hit full boost, it felt as if the car was just bogging like crazy, and when i let off the throttle the blow off sounded like an air hose blowing through a stack of paper! so strange. I parked the car earlier tonight to ride with some friends since I was having problems... later I returned to get my car and it was WORSE THAN EVER! I couldnt even drive it. This time, i was at full boost, I also couldnt go over 1500 RPM. And if i tried, the lights would dim, car would shake and sputter, and feel as if it were to cut off at any second. I dont know whats wrong. At first, I was thinking my BOV was going to shit, but when these other symptoms arose, I am now confused! I feel as if we have the same problem here... but a tranny problem? I dont understand that.

Oh and sorry If i am being a 'thread whore', this one just seemed as if it would help me out the most.
 
For shits and giggles one day I ran my car extra rich, full boost under 2k rpms and felt like ass (just like your explaining), so my guess is your running crazy rich from a boost leak. Go to vfaq and make your self a boost leak tester.
 
Mine was doing that, I replaced the battery and it has not done it since. Not sure if it will help, but thought I would let you know...
 
Seems like too general of a problem since everyone has different answers. I had something similar when i tried installing my insert for my ssqv, i didnt tighten the bolts on the front of the blow off valve all the way and it would leak a lot of boost and bog down. I dont know if you have an upgraded blow off valve but you may want to check the tightness of it. Just my suggestion. :talon:
 
Turns out it was a clogged fuel filter. I was running sooo lean the car didn't have enough fuel to rev passed 2k, and boost was coming on at 1500. Glad it wasn't my trans

I had the same exact symptoms turned out that when I had removed the upper intercooler pipe to replace the thermostat that it had worked its way loose. Put it back up and clamp it down hard and it was back to normal again. So check your intercooler pipes and make sure that they are clamped down.

replace your fuel filter, it's only 8 bucks
 
well i'm finally off work ALL day today, so that rocks. Today I plan on replacing the fuel filter, spark plugs, AND doing a boost leak test (unless one of the three decides to cure the problem)... hell, i'll even take it to get a FULL maintenance afterwards!

I have a 97 gst with 29000 miles on it, when i bought the car in march 04 the mileage was 17000 original miles, it was bone stock. on the test drive i noticed that it would occasionally act like it was starving for fuel or so i thought, without telling all that ive done to diagnose this problem, i can tell you this, the car is running great, you come to a stop, you accelerate and the turbo makes boost but it feels like a pig, if i let up on the throttle for a bit then step into it i usually get power back, it all coresponds with the ignition timing I purchased an actron code reader and you can also monitor sensor outputs while driving, what i found is the ifnition timing runs from 8 degrees to about 40, when this event occurrs my timing is going
-5 to -8 degress, in other words something is retarding the timing, possibly a knock sensor? i havent got that far yet but i can tell you that its pissing me off...

ive replaced the fuel filter, ive checked the fuel pressure 40-60lbs, new plugs and wires,
i conected a hose and air pressure to the turbo inlet and put 20 pounds to it checking for intake air system leaks, found none, im concidering replacing the knock sensor, its not codeing up but im running out of options.. let me know if you figure it out
the car runs strong sometimes for quite awile and then it does it
 
talk about a simple fix. When i finally got the car all jacked up, put jackstands under, and started to really look at it... i saw an intercooler pipe completely disconnected from the bottom of the intercooler. WTF, it looks like it blew itself off and the clamp was just dangling there. it was so strange. i fixed it though, and replaced my fuel filter.... and oh yeah, i flushed the intercooler. it had some oil in it. car runs like a champ now....

and the guy with the car doing the "phantom Knock", there are alot of things that could screw up that knock sensor, its just a pain in the ass. my car does that, but it doesnt do it enough for me to park it and start trying to do a fix.

doesn't mean i won't do it in the future though :thumb:
