I think I'm cursed with cars.

I'm lucky to be alive tonite. I was taking the WRX out for the first time in the snow - had been doing well, was having a good time, and was driving around some of the backroads around here - we've got plenty of em. I wasn't goin very fast, about 20mph or so, but at one point, crossed a bridge and there was a turn immediately after - and I'd slowed down to make the turn, but I lost traction, and slid straight off the road... into a creek about 15ft below the road.

The car flipped over completely, and landed resting on the drivers side, in the water. I managed to climb up out of the car from the passengers side. I was kind of in the middle of nowhere, so I was lucky there was a house right across the street - he let me use my phone (my cell phone disappeared in the accident) - called the cops and my insurance company, while he let me use his wood stove to try to dry off the icy water from my clothes - it helped a lot. The cop and a wrecker eventually arrived to pull the car out - I just got back only a few minutes ago, after about 4 hours, and having to help the COP get out and helped him put chains on his tires.

It's been a long nite, and I'm probably out one fresh WRX. But, I've learned a lot tonight - mostly, that I'm very, very lucky. Lucky to be alive, lucky to not be hurt (aside from a bruise on my arm), lucky to have found a kind soul who was willing to help me. Too bad I can't be more lucky with cars.

Sorry for the novel, but I figured I'd share my night... : :thumbdown

Damn sorry for the loss, especially considering you just got it. I hope everything works out and you get your car back if possible. Just goes to show, AWD is great, but it is not the end all for all traction situations.

Glad to hear your alright and someone was willing to help you out! :thumb:

Dang... That sucks! At least you were by a kind soul who helped you out..Good luck on the insurance or whatever.

sorry to hear man. perspective on things changes when stuff like that happens. glad to see you're okay because a car can be replaced, but not a life.

p.s., must have been the DSM gods.. cause you bought a subie :p

Gotta watch the those bidges. There is usually ice on and around them..

Glad to here you made it out ok. Flipping in the water can be real bad.

Have any pics of the caranage...

if its totalled can i have the turbo upipe and dpipe and I/C

convert my 2.5rs to turbo powah!

Frick man, good luck with everything. Did you happen to take any pics like someone asked?

No, I don't have any pics - no good pics of the car at all, in the 15 days that I had it :( I'll see if I can take some if I go out to see it at the lot where it was towed too.... it's not pretty.

The car was leased, so I won't be doing any parting out either.

<- Still happy to be here, except for the ticket I got from the cop.

Thats very unfortunite. I'm glad to hear you are okay. The car can be replaced, but a human life can not. Good luck with insurance and your ticket. Best of wishes,

David :talon:

I've had a few misses in vehicles both mine and of others before during snowy weather, from now on the only time i go backwoods driving is if I absolutely have to. And I don't don't do it on roads I don't know well when it's anything but dry. Glad you're okay though, sorry bout the subie.

I learned my lesson with snow and awd. I was just going up the street to Burger King for a bite to eat. Pulling out on the street (3" of snow) the ol' Scooby was fishtailing like I was Michael Knight piloting K.I.T.T. Made it to BK in one piece, but on the way back, gong 20 mph, I couldn't stop to avoid hitting a car at the light, so I cut it hard right, putting the car sideways into a tree. The experience left me scarr'd for life.

Glad to see that you didn't get killed.

That sucks. Snow can be tricky and unpredictable. One good thing that may have come out of it, the cop might remember you helping him out.

Dayum man, that sucks. At least you were alright and found a warm place to go. Snow can be tricky. Sucks about the car, but it can be replaced, and our moderator can not.

If that were the case I doubt the cop would've ticketed him in the first place.
