Not exactly the right forum for this (I didn't find a rally forum), but hoping someone might have some ideas. Wondering if anyone makes any nice looking hood mount light pods for 2g DSMs? I don't really just want to make up brackets and bolt lights on as I also track the car. Looking for something that's either aerodynamic enough that I can leave it on at the track or easily removeable.

Thanks,
Brian

Nobody makes them as far as I know.

And that's where your post should have stopped.

For example, RRE makes a universal lightpod and they know 2Gs, so they could probably fix you up.

TRF in Michigan could also do it, but he'd need a 2G to play with to do it.

Personally, I'd consider going the extra step and just make a second hood. The Dzus-fastener approach leaves me cold. It's so easy to swap the hood on a 2G and so many people sell their OE hood when they buy something lighter that this wouldn't be too difficult or add much expense if you're really committed to rallying a 2G.

Looks like the RRE one could probably be tweaked to fit, I like that idea.

I'll have to think about the 2 hood concept. I'm not a real big fan of swapping hoods, but it does have some good points for it. I'm pretty limited on space, time, and helpers (and have already almost put a hood through my windshield while taking it off before). :)

Thanks, gives me something work with!

One thing to keep in mind about lightpods is that they usually ruin the airflow up the windshield and over the roof. Rally cars don't go all that fast at night, so they don't care. But for daytime track racing, you really really don't want a lightpod on the nose. And yet, the Dzus-fastener approach is often a little weak, especially for a car running on a rough road. Ergo my suggestion of two hoods.

But, if you are limited in storage space, that could make it moot. I just wanted to fill your brain with issues to completely paralyze your decision-making so you wouldn't finish the car and prove that all my snide comments about rallying a 2G were nonsense. :) In truth, I'd love to see you succeed.

How was he supposed to know..Luv2rally..Is one of 2 on this site I have ever seen with the rally lights on tuners..

Maybe in an evo style bumper..Ok it's possible..

And the other I seen was a 1g on a 4x4 truck chassis of some kind..With the lights mounted on a push bar type thing..

No disrespect..It's just not something you see very often...I could not find a smilie I liked so I'm going with this one:mrt:

The unfortunate thing is that I have a potential sponsor with a garage to keep it in. However, I sometimes have to drive it to work when my other car is down... :)

Actually, it's been working great for what I need it to do (I haven't had to do any (non-recall item) suspension related repairs, unlike the MR2 that it has taken over for. The MR2 has had more swaybar mounting area frame repairs than I care to count). I'm just tired of not being able to see where I'm going at night. 2g headlights are weak on hi-beams and on regulars they're marginal for even puttering to the grocery store. Too bad I can't transplant the MR2 headlight/foglight combo over to the DSM, those things are crazy good for something that old and OEM. :)

Wow. Are you my second long-lost twin? (The first, of course, is Dennis Grant.) I had the 7th MR2 in North America. Met it at the boat, in fact, as I was so excited. (Her name was Furball; long story.) Later I tried to rallycross a 2G (Cinder) and did a lot of damage to the car. But I also won by a minute, so it wasn't all bad. Double good luck!
