I just picked up my (stock) 95 Eagle Talon TSI AWD Turbo from the Dodge dealership who was doing a timing belt change and fixing a transmission leak and various other work. I just bought the car so I'm getting this stuff taken care of. During the course of the repair I stopped in and they had my intercooler piping off. I just drove it home tonight and when I start to hit boost it makes a loud noise like air leaking and I loose power. I assume its just a hose clamp thats loose on my intercooler piping but the thing that confuses me is that my stock boost gauge shoots up to the max when this happens. If I keep the RPM's low it drives just fine. I will tighten my clamps tomorrow night because its too dark and cold here to do it tonight. I just wanted to check with you guys and get your opinions. The boost gauge spiking if the only thing thats throwing me. Thnaks for the help in advance.

check the vaccume line for the wastegate...that could be causing it...it defiently sounds like a vaccume problem...maybe the bov lines also and check all IC and intake piping...let us know

You can still reach full pressure (whatever your W/G is set to) with a small boost leak. Your car will also run terribly. Check for loose clamps and get back to us.

It was driving me nuts knowing that my car was wanst running right so I braved the sub-zero weather and tightened all my intercooler piping hose clamps. It is still acting up, runs great until you start to hit boost then lots of air noise and no boost. I havent checked vac lines yet I didnt check the post until I came back inside and now its pretty late so I'll be sure to check them after work tomorrow. I may try to double clamp my intercooler piping tomorrow as well. I should just buy my hard piping now, I'm sure the silicone sleeves seal better than this stock stuff. Thanks for the ideas, I'll check back tomorrow or Saturday. Thanks!

just take it back to the dealer since you didn't have the problem until after they worked on it and they should fix the problem for nothing. if the service manager doesn't want to, go talk to the most important person there about it and they should be able to help you out.

You just have a boost leak.

You can build an intake leak tester (see my sig) to find the problem yourself, or if you can get the dealership to fix it for you (which they should, but who knows, some of them are anus).

The reason your stock "boost" gauge shoots way up when it happens is because:

The stock boost gauge is not a boost gauge. It is an airflow/rpm (I don't know it exactly, but it's a formula, it never actually measures boost pressure) gauge, which approximates boost :) The reason why it maxes out when you start leaking is because the turbo feels free to push all the air it can out that hole. The stock airflow sensor (before the turbo) sees a whole ton of air going through it, and the ECU thinks you're running tons of boost suddenly.

Thanks. I knew the stock boost gauge didnt measure boost I thought it was controlled by something stupid like the throttle position sensor. Since I knew it didnt measure actual boost it threw me off. The dealership will fix it if need be. They had my car for 1 and 1/2 months already and its my weekend off so I really want to get it going myself so I have it for the weekend. I will check all my clamps tomorrow and see if I can find the leak. I called the dealership today and talked to the mechanic that worked on my car. He felt bad and he said that he had the lower intercooler piping off and some vaccum lines off. So I check it out tomorrow and report back.

Its alive!!!! Thanks guys for all the help. Once I had it in a garage where it wasnt 0 degrees and I had some light, I noticed the hose clamp for the piping going into my throtthe body was just spinning on there and the hose was half off. Now she runs great. I'm going to tease the meachanic that worked on it for a while now. I know him pretty good and I'll joke around about how I hope he didnt tighten my flywheel bolts like he tightened that hose clamp. Thanks again!
