car having problems [missing, backfiring under load]

I have a 1990 eagle talon awd. Just the other day my car has been acting up. I was driving home from work and i was in 4th gear. I went to give it some more gas to pass a slow honda and my car was hesitating and jearing. I think that is also backfired. I have no idea what is wrong with the car. Please help.

Most likely cause is plugs or plug wires. Start there first.

what else could it be. I am going to change the plugs and wires tomorrow. I am just tring to troubleshoot.

You may have a plug wire loose or not making contact at all. I had mine doing that on my 2nd plug; under boost my spark plug boot would just pop up enough to where it wasnt making contact. You also may want to check you plugs if you havent checked them in a while. It may also be dirty injectors and not getting enough fuel under higher boost.
