Well my idle is still surging on my spankin "new" 91 talon LOL. Very annoying I must say LOL. Mine is the case where the idle surges between 1200-1500RPMs. Here is what went on so far, maybe you guys can help me finish the job. :thumb:

The car will idle a bit high, but steady when started cold. After about 2mins of sitting, the idle will start its surging cycle. Never stalls, just stays between 1200-1500
The car surged when I got it. So far, I have:
-Adjusted the BISS screw using proper procedure. O-ring is present, screw has no effect once sensors are back connected.
-Checked + adjusted IPS, checks out properly
-Checked the ISC motor. It had a bad coil and wouldnt operate properly so i got a used one from a boardmember. This one operates just fine, the pintle moves in/out smoothly when key is turned to "on" and power is applied.
-Cleaned out TB
-No vac. leaks i can find
-EGR valve blocked off

Im pretty much lost now. all I can think of is FIAV, but how can one check that? Or the o2 sensor, but I seem to be getting readings from it and there is no ECU code...but i am new to these cars, can the o2 go bad w/o being easliy detectable? And another note on the FIAV, I know that it operates w/ coolant hoses that attatch to the TB, is there a diagram online anywhere of how these lines are routed?? Cause on my car it appears that there are two ports on the underside of the TB, where it appears coolant lines would have hooked to, but I have none. Is that for the FIAV?? I havent the chance to research the FIAV much, and cannot find much anyway. Or i guess a remote possiblity of the bad ECU? but i doubt it? b/c i am having no other problems with anything. Please give some advice, im lost now! haha i cannot think of anything else...and I dont want to buy a new TB just yet, w/o exhausting every other option! Thanks a million!

Yeah ive been through all the links and tests  its horrible! haha

Hmm... super idea chaye. Any things to test for a bad MAF? I have no CEL triggered, so you had idle surge and a new MAF fixed it? hmm...i will have to investigate.

I dont know if this one point on my problem matters either, but the car won't idle surge when started cold, it waits until at least 2-3 mins after letting it sit to start surging.
And about the O2 sensor, what kind of readings will it try to send if it goes bad, does anyone know?
thanks:thumb:

Ok as for the O2, I just checked the readings w/ my logger and at idle (well idle surge :( ) I am getting a reading of 0.00V - 0.01V from the o2, is it supposed to read anything else at idle? I wish it was a broken o2, that would be anice easy fix....
I hate DSMs but love em at the same time!

I had a similar problem with surge and it turned out that my base timing was a bit high. Like 10* high! As soon as I set it back to where it was supposed to be it was fine. Might be something to check out.

I did the exact same thing and got similar readings. I bought a new 02 and now the readings are right but I still was getting idle surge. I ended up having my buddy come over and he pretty much disabled my ISC and now it works great! Didn't cost me a penny.

hey.............you already checked the timing right?
i checked the timing a thousand times...and nothing. I did, like i said everything, and spent countless hours trying to fix it. I dont know what the reading is supposed to be on the O2 sensor, all i did was take a voltmeter and checked it. Got nothing out of it! so i bought a new one just cause i was like you, wanting to throw my car off a ditch and set it on fire. That did nothing.
Btw you did not take the honey combs out, now did you?

Do you know anyone with a good working dsm? If so try theirs, if not well your S.O.L. like me. go to the junk yard and get your self a dif one.
BTW #2 you can get a MAF from a galant, DUH, a montero, YES, and ...i forget.

good luck man....

Thx for all the replies!

Yeah...my timing is A-ok
Now I'm leaning towards the MAF.... I just got the car, and tonight i took the filter off and checked out the MAF, my honeycombs are gone! Blah..... I bet thats it, i have heard problems with that from sucking in the unmetered air.... i guess i'll have to find someone around with a DSM..good luck to me LOL.... or maybe just buy one cheap, what can it hurt i will eventually replace everything wont I, its a DSM LOL.

yeahh..its your maf..
come to think of it mine didnt come with the honey combs either...
after i got my new one i took the honey combs out..and sure enough it went back to the horrible idle...
so yes you have found your problem

good luck
