I am havin some trouble with my Greddy EGT gauge. AIght here it goes. I ran all the wires. The constant power source, the ignition source, the gauge lights, and the ground. Also the tap is done and all that. When I turn on the car the dan thing reads absolutely nothing. Also when I had it all hooked up the braided letal line that goes into the manifold hit the clutch and it sparked. I think this may have shorted out the gauge. I need some input on this PLEASEE. Also for the constant pwer source I have it tapped off my electronic seats theyw ork even woth the ignition off. What did U guys use for your constant power source?
Thanks a lot
-Andrew

-For some reason, people never disconnect the negative terminal on the battery when they work on their car, guess they like firework.
-I get the power from the turbo timer harness as with all my other add-ons for easy trouble shooting. Why do you need the gauge on if the motor isn't running? you can't read the EGT any way.
-The gauge doesn't work, does it work before the wire short out? The outer braided layer is for protection only, your wire must be cutted some where so electricity is leaking to the braided layer causing the short.
-Did you check the tiny connectors on the back of the gauge, the wire(s) could have pull loose while you fish it throught the firewall.

Off the top I'd say you got the power feed to the light backwards and the egt case is now hot which then ran down the braid until it found a ground. I don't know if these el cheapo units are using an amplified circuit to power the needle but a pyrometer gets it electrical source from the temp probe in the manifold.

Cheers,

-98 AWD, recheck your connections, if you have another GReddy gauge ie: boost, hook the boost gauge to the EGT's 4 wire connector without hooking up the braided wire(signal) to see if the new gauge even power up, peel off the 3 stickers on the back of the guage(void warranty?) to see if there's anything burn on the board, there might be a surface mounted capacitor(fuse), but good luck trying to fix it if there's one, test the braided signal wire in section to fine the short.

Thanks a lot for all your help guys. I did have the negative battery terminal disconnected when I hooked it up, but when I put the terminal back on and started the car I got that little spark action. I am gonna check behind those stickers and I can maybe see whats up. Thanks again. If it is burnt out I guess I have to buy a whole new gauge right? What other guages would you guys buy and also I do not have a turbo timer hooked up yet, but I did just get one where should I grab power for that?

-The only gauge I have is EGT & boost(A MUST HAVE), I do have a O2 voltage gauge that I modified from something/kit. Like I said in the above post, I get power from the turbo timer(GReddy) harness under the steering column, try to organize your add-ons so in case something is broken you'll know where to look instead of tap into what ever is convenience, you'll forget in 1-2 yrs.

I got the constant power from the radio harness' "B+" wire (yellow, if I remember correctly). Probably wouldn't work well for everyone, but my gauge is mounting right above the radio.

If you got a spark, more than likely you fried something. All the working voltages in the gauge are small, so if you pulled enough current to spark, you definately need to repair/replace the gauge. Also if your gauge is mounted on the pillar like most are, there is a constant power running up the pillar for the map/dome lights.
