About 5 years ago I replaced the caps in the ECU of my 91 Talon with replacements from Digi-Key. At that time, they had just begun to leak. Has anyone had to replace their caps a second time or were the original caps just defective to start with. Just wondering if I should open up the ECU and take a look at it again.

The new capacitors are somewhat improved than any other old capacitor, some newer technology on dielectric sealant or something like that, remember the old ones where manufactured in the late 80's or the very beginning of 90's, manufacturers have change standards since then. (notice the bigger size on older caps VS smaller and efficient new ones)

You shouldn't worry about your caps, they'll be fine for even longer than 10 years, then again it never hurts to give'em a check from time to time, you can never be too careful.

It couldn't hurt to keep an eye on them though. People still manufacture cheap crap sometimes.

I'm an electrical engineer, and write embedded software for motherboards. Sometimes people send in boards to be worked on that are less than a year old, and the capacitors are all popped and leaky on them.

Just 'cause it's new doesn't mean it's good :)

But... chances are you'll be just fine for another 10 years. I'm not trying to be a negative-nancy, just warning of the potentials.
