knocking,,but only with spark plugs in

ok, this car broke a balance shaft belt a while back, causing the timing belt to jump timing,,,,so i figured the knock was bent valves, so i pulled the head, all looked ok both with head and block but i sent the block to the machine shop anyways, had new valve seals put in since they were shot,,,but they said the valves were all ok, now i put it back on, put the belts back on, and without the plugs in,,,as in no compression all sounds ok, no knock or anything thats not normal at all, , but when i put the plugs in, it knocks, ive also pulled all but one to see if it was just from compression in one cylinder but if i put one plug in each cylinder on its own each one still makes the same knock sound when i turn the motor over,,i dont get it, when the balance shaft belt broke it only make the t belt skip a couple teeth,,,so i never lost oil pressure,,any ideas?

& what if the knock was a balance shaft? You may have figured wrong - Belts don't just break...

can the balance shaft even make a knocking sound,,,i havnt yet gotten to tear down a block yet on one of these cars, and before hand i had put everything back in timing, tried to turn the motor without the balance shaft belt and it did the same thing as it does now with the balance shaft belt on


Id believe this car could have broken a belt because it had no records at all for the past 120k miles

The rear balance shaft was still turning if the Oil Pump Sprocket was being turned by the Timing Belt - & many guys have reported knocks from their Balance Shafts.

Well from what little I can gather it's not dead yet - my bet is you need a rear balnce shaft delete kit - BTW - WTF IS IT? Your profile is kinda uh......

maybe i should update the profile, its a 91 talon like yours, ive also got a 90 gsx,,,it however runs pretty good though its getting a new motor soon due to low compression
