boost takes for ever to build up

i have a 91 tsi all stock and it takes me up to 4k rpm's to hit stock boost??? i was wondering why it would take so long i have a 14b not a 20g but when at high rpm's theres some black smoke not much but there is some.i dont have a boost leak i dont think i checked my pipeing and ic. but my bcs is not on anything it has been t'ed off could that be problem? im gonna check how much shaft play it has tommrow morning im thinking turbo could be bad. what could it be? anyone know?

Your wastegate may be partially stuck open.

yea, most likely wastegate, ive seen where some have rusted and stuck.

mabye even your wastegate actuator is bad.

i got 120k miles on my car but also when i boost up at 5k rpm's when its def all there i shoot out some black smoke but i got an extra waste gate lying around ill put that on tommrow. plus i got a ccdsm.net meet tommrow hopefully i can get it boosting nice for it tommrow

sounds like you are running rich, to explain the black smoke,

my problem is my intercooler, my turbo ate some hose and filled my intercooller up, and i run rich all the time, becasue my intercooler is blocked and the air the MAF is seeing, is not reaching the intake, also my boost is slow as hell.

ya cause when i changed tb gasket i had car idling in garage and i noticed it was shooting out little specs of black liquid just a tad though could it be oil or just my car running rich? but im gonna try waste gate actuator tommrow and mabye the inter cooler hopefully its one of those 2 so i can get boosting but alsdo i have my mbc cranked almost all the way and im only getting like 12-13 psi so im guesing actuator

is their oil in your pipes? intake pipes and junk.

mabye you actually have a boost leak,

i dont think i have a boost leak theres no oil exept in the snorkal piece of intake part because the breather from head goes to it but im not really sure but i know on uicp theres no oil or anything just from intake pipe from mas to turbo inlet

hmmmm... has anythinghappened recently with your car? like,
you changed, or someting happend, then boost was lost.

Check your turbo for shaft play if you havent already. A pressure test would also be a wise option.
