Well ya'll, I learned a hard lesson, dont attempt to replace the cap's on your ECU while under the influence of heavy drugs...
which lead's to my question...will this work on my 92' Turbo all wheel drive talon?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33596&item=2444208612

it looks completely different as far as the setup of the board, but the 3 plugs all look the same and yes I do have an EPROM originally.
any help/advice would be good.

Thanks ya'll

Chad

oh yeah....umm....dont do drugs! :thumbdown They lead to broken cars.

That board looks identical to mine, except for the external mounting brackets, 91 tsiawd, but buying it would have a lot of risk--there are compatibility issues, see the 1000faq webpage. The caps on that board could very well be leaking because the leaking occurs at the bottom next to the board & you won't be able to see it without removing the cap from the board. plus, the auction still has over 6 days left on it.
A safer bet would be to mail your ecu to Tom Stangl,([email protected]) & see if he can fix it for about the same money.
replacing the caps is delicate work & easy to screw up the board, but it's usually fixable--no need to ask me how I know.

It may be a Mitsubishi ecu but not from a 1G DSM. DON'T BUY IT! It wont even fit properly behind the center dash properly. The plug orientation to the main body is totally different. Also look at the part # .Not one that I've ever seen. But it's your money. Also, Wheres the 3 CAPS that are supposed to be in such good shape. I only see 2. Seems fishy.

here's the problem, I tried heating them up and pullin them but the soder would'nt completely melt "cheap gun" so I pulled and pulled the prongs out of the cap so they were stuck on the board, I then triedn pullin them really hard and they snaped and left the studs in the board, so then the drugs kicked in and I got a briliant idea to use a drill...a really small drill bit...and I drilled the hole's...then put the new one's in with huge gop's of sodder. like i said, dont do drugs! my buddy josh, he's an electrician, he tried fixin it, but the soder doe'snt have anything to grip to but plastic, so he's takin it to his boss to see if they can put new rings in their and put the caps in. and their doin it for free so...i figure, if it doe'snt work...I learned my lesson, and i'll just buy a new one. if it does work, i learned my lesson, but spend no money. but i'm being safe, if it dos'nt work, i wana cover my ass and have a new one for them to replace the caps on. if i do buy a used one, he'll replace the caps for free. so, yeah.
main problem is that the board I listed looks completely different than mine, but the connections are the same.

Like I stated before, It doen't look like anything I've ever seen in our cars. It could have possibly came out of a 3000GT or maybe a COLT VISTA, LOL. But either way, I wouldn't buy it. this guy could just be trying to pull a scam on some unsuspecting, uneducated DSM'er. Ive seen other cars that Mitsubishi Motors released that had eproms also. Take a good look at where the eprom is located on the pic. Its dead center on the lowest part of the circuit board. Yours shoul be on the lower right side. On a further note, Just because the plugs look the same doesnt mean that they are all wired the same. Look at all the ecu options we have on our cars alone. And they wont even interchange all the time. If somebody can prove me wrong, I am totally open for a smack in the face. I'm a grown man, I can take it. Been wrong before.

not to worry, your board is completely fixable by a skilled technician. The etched tracings on the board are not essential as they can be bypassed by jumper wires. Be sure to check for continuity with an ohmeter between the leads on the caps and the solder junction futher out on the tracing & also be sure to check for continuity between the cap leads & adjaent tracings--won't be open but should read a high resistance value. an auto-ranging digital voltmeter is priceless--I got a small one from Fry's electronics for $10 & this leads to my next question regarding mitsu-logic or lack thereof----
Why oh why did they not put a voltmeter for the car somewhere on the dashboard & instead you learn that your alternater is not working when the ABS warning light stays on?
