mbc wont boost more then 12

just installed my boost gauge and tried to turn up my boost, boost gauge went tfrom 10 mbc all the way out to mbc almost all the way in went to 12-13.. no more, i thought these things were able to boost up to 30??? after a few turns from all the way out it only reads 12-13????
 
Sounds to me like you've got a cracked turbine housing on your turbo (very common on these cars). How long does it take to fully spool up? At what rpms are you at max boost? Are you going by the factory boost gauge? You might also want to check for boost leaks on your intake side especially around the intercooler and throttle body. Both are notorious for producing leaks after a while.
 
Its also a 2G, they have crappy BOV's they leak passed 12PSI and won't hold ANY boost higher than that. Get a 1G BOV and adapter or a new UIP and a Greddy Type s or type R. The type R will give you a good sound, espically if you've done the aircan mods. Makes a nice loud phooosh sound.
 
well i use to have a turbo xs type "rfl" but it was recently stolen, will be picking one up real soon again, love the sound, iwill check for leaks and if none are foun i assume it will be he bov, also the turbo spools great, within 500 rpm's of pressing gas all the way, spools up real quick to 12-13 and just stays there and holds, the turbo i also in really good condition, no cracks, no shaft play, no leaks very clean.. will check for leaks and also do i need to have a tight caps on my intake nipple and turbo outlet nipple?
 
You need a VERY tight cap on the compressor side nipple. The intake nipple doesn't get boost so it wont go anywhere, but that nipple on the elbow needs to be capped, RTV'd, and clamped. Or get a new elbow that doesnt have a nipple, IE the one that extreme motorsports sells for 45. Its also 2" diamater instead of the 1" stock one.
