Philadelphia,
Hey everyone, here is my situation withj my 97 GSX. Last week, I noticed my belts were screaming and I started hearing some metal grinding and some tapping noise. I check out the car and it seems that my crank pulley has gone bad and separated from the harmonic damper and was clashing with the frame and that was causing the noise. Well, after I found out what the problem was, I started up my car once again to put it in the garage when all of a sudden I hear a loud ass humming/ rubbing noise and hurried and turned the car off. Here, the accessory belts had come loose and the crank pulley was nearing hangin off. The next day I went to Mitsu and bought the OEM crank pulley and new accessory belts. I removed the old crank pulley, replaced it, and replaced the belts and thought everything went nice and smoothly. I started up the car and I hear the same damn humming/rubbing noise as I did when the car first went out of commission. I wasn't sure what it was so I figured I would take everything apart again (crank pulley and belts) and check the timing belt cover to see if there was any rubbing from the crank pulley or belts. Well, with everything apart, I could not find anything at all. So I decided to check the timing to make sure nothing inside the engine was f*cked. It seems that my timing is right on. The two notches on the cam gears line up and the crank pulley notch is just a c*nt hair below the T notch on the timing gauge thingy located on the TB cover. Well, it seems that the timing is ok and my internals are not out of whack....what could this be?!??!!? Like I said before, when I start up my car with the new crank pulley and belts on, I hear a really loud rubbing/ screeching noise. I have no clue what it is or where to start looking. I was sure to find something when I took apart everything but found nothing. Does anyone have any direction for me? Any help is appreciated! Thanks and hope to hear from you soon!!!!!
