Im driving my g/f car a 98gst and I look down and her oil pressure is almost dead. So i take to a shop and they looked under the car and the whole wheel cover was sprayed and ever suspension part on the driverside was coated they said it might be the crankshaft gasket do they go bad easily the car has 72000 miles so I called a performance shop near me and explained the story and they are trying to tell me it might be crankwalk I have never heard of a massive oil leak do to crankwalk the car fells fine no ticking (except the lifters of course) and its a AUTO. Has anyone had this happen if so what was it and how much to fix I checked my car a 98 gst STICK and it's doing the same thing just it dosent leak as fast im not losing oil like she is. Hers leaked 3qt in 30 min and im only usally a half qt low when I do a oil change. Im going to take the wheel cover off and see if I can find the leak cause all the other guy did was lift it up start it up and noticed oil leaking from the crank pulley area. Please any help would be great or ideas cause what ever it is I need it to and this is her only car to get from home to work.

Thanks AJ
P.S is this anysign of it walking and how hard is it to take the timeing belt cover off so i can really find where the leak is coming from thanks again.

Sounds kinda vagie but the crank seal might have went. I would pull the timing cover off (very easy once the drivers side wheel is off) and check around.

Also to your question bout the timing cover. you will have to take all the accessory belts off and then you will have to take the crank pull off. once those are off then you can start taking out all the screws for the cover.

On my car, the Crank seal looked like sh|t and i only had 59K on it. so check that, and also check all the other seals.

Thanks for the post man how hard is the crankpulley to get off i dont have any air gun tools and no torque wrench. So I dont want to take it off without putting it back on at factory specs. Also do you know if this could be a sign of walk cause it has been a itch on my head.
Thanks

Anyone else have anything to add

No it is not a sign of crankwalk. a sign of crankwalk would be clicking noise comming from the timing cover and if it was M/t it would have a gushy pedal. Search for Crank walk to get better info.

To take the crank pully off. it has 4 bolts ( 12mm) and it is rather easy to get off. The Crank gear is the bear and will take a 1/2 wrench to take off.

It might be the oil pump seal. When mine went out it made quite a mess...

You don't need an airgun to remove the crank pulley. I believe the torque spec on it is something like 12Ft./Lbs.

PS If you're going to work on a car, GET A TORQUE WRENCH!!
