static type sound coming from front?

There is a static type noise coming from the front near the windshield while I drive my car. I thought it was the speakers (which would have been odd since the dash ones are not hooked up) but turning my radio off did not fix it.. I also tried changing AC/HEAT all of that ect.. still a strange static type noise... any ideas? its a 97 GSX w/ 70k miles

well from my issues i have resolved
check:

dust shields on rotors
speedometer cable where it enters the guage cluster
mine still does the speedo shit. annoying

K thnx it prolly is the dust thing.. UI couldnt drive my car for about a month so it was just sitting there.

No cables on the 2Gs, Pax. I tell you and I tell you and I tell you and STILL you give this answer. It's a damned good thing that ninja-pose is so intimidating, or I would be moved to speak to you quite harshly.

wma, check your brake pads, too. Outside noises can sound like they're from anywhere. Try it with the windows down, and drive along next to a concrete wall someplace (ally behind a shopping mall, or in a parking garage).

Alright defiant thanks for the advice I'll try that today. theres a parking garage that amplifies any sound you're car makes 10fold I could hear myself run over ants there.
